Prêt-à-click

Just had the most amazing weekend in Banská Štiavnica (one day I will do a separate post about it, I have to!), spent learning Tango Argentino with my guy. My feet hurt so bad, as do my butt and legs, but I loved it, I dearly recommend it as couples team building, ha :-)))

1. One of my favorite places in Štiavnica is a fantastic second hand book shop Antikvatiárik, where I snatched some 1930's issues of the Czech Eva magazine. Un-be-lie-vab-le! :-) And they acctually have an online shop as well, look here.

2. Check out the fresh internet magazine i-lemon covering art, literature, music, film, photography and all kind of cool stuff :-) And a recent interview with the young painter Katarina Sido, with some of my pictures of her, here.
Ak nepoznáte, mrknite mladý internetový magazín i-lemon. O umení, literatúre, hudbe, filme, fotografii a iných hodnotných pridružených činnostiach :-) Napríklad aj v nedávnom rozhovore so študentkou maľby Katkou Sido s pár fotkami, čo sme spolu robili, tutok.

3. There is a new street style blog on the block. Two young sociologists from Poland with cameras around their necks - I love the concept! Take a look and show them some love here. And have a great week, maybe we'll see some sunshine :-)
Do celosvetovej rodiny pribudol nový streetstyle blog. Robia ho dvaja mladí sociológovia z Poľska - výborný koncept! Mrknite sem a ak sa vám to zdá, nehanbite sa dať follow. A najmä, majte krásny týždeň, možno nám aj slnko zasvieti :-)

Theresa, Ostrava streetstyle

I intended to call this post "Black and white with a splash of red" or something along those very sophisticated lines, and yes, I do love black on the background of white snow and red lips... but in the end, it is all about the positively crazy, beautiful, very talented and obviously very cold resistant make-up artist and blogger Theresa. We met on a very cold weekend in Ostrava and spent a nice evening chatting next to a glass (okay, make it a bottle) of wine together :-) Check out her blog and work here.

Pôvodne som zamýšľala tento post nazvať "Black and white with a splash of red" alebo niečo na ten sofistikovaný štýl, pretože áno, milujem čiernu na bielom snehu, doladenú červenými perami.... ale v konečnom efekte je to aj tak všetko o ľahko šialenej, krásnej, veľmi talentovanej a evidetne veľmi mrazuvzdornej vizážistke a blogerke Therese. Stretli sme sa v jeden mrazivý víkend v Ostrave a stávili podvečer príjemným pokecom pri pohári (no dobre, fľaši) vína :-) Jej blog a práce nájdete tu, aha.

Vintage streetstyle, post 2: Matilda

Picture by Bartoa D, taken around the 1920's. On it is probably the mother of his grand mother, Matilda (you know you have those pictures in your family album when no one is REALLY sure who is on the picture :-). What we can't see in the picture is that later on, she lost her husband in the war and was left alone with her daughter (Bartoa's grand mother) and a hard working life.
I admit, this picture is not so much streetstyle, but I really love its atmosphere and the little details in it, that's why I decided to include it in this series of vintage streetstyle photos.
Just to remind you of the rules of this little "competition", check them here.

Vintage streetstyle, post 1: Jozef

Picture send in by Bartoa D., and on the picture is Jozef (aged about 20), the brother of his grandfather. Grandfather Ivan was in love with photography and had a huge archive, even helped out in a photo atelier. So when he got the chance, next to some weddings he shot, he also developed the pictures of his brother. The picture dates back to the 1950's and was taken in Handlová or Nováky or somewhere other close to Prievidza.
What I love about this photo, next to the the haircut and the short sleeves of the jacket is the overall streetstyle attitude of Jozef :-)

On a cigarette break, Ostrava streetstyle

I caught this lady in front of the Ostrava town hall, she seemed to be going on a little cigarette break, braving the freezing weather. I love how you can tell so many stories just by looking at her face, eyes, coat, gesture of the hand...

Vintage streetstyle: Share your photos and take home a Diana

I am sure somewhere in you family albums there are hidden photographic treasures capturing your mum, dad, grandma or even great-grand uncle from different kind of eras, documenting the style of those people and eras. Wonderful black and white (or even some colour 80's) vintage streetstyle pictures that are worth to be seen.
My call is: scan those photographs, send them to my email address: tonbogirl.blogspot@gmail.com, together with a short description of who is on the picture or a short story about the picture. I will publish the best of them here, one by one. The best part: together they will create an unique album of vintage streetstyle of Slovakia, Czech republic or wherever you are from (any other regions are welcome!) I am sooo looking forward your pictures representing our vintage style of the streets!
For example, on this pic above is my mum (sooo pretty, I know :-), sometime in the early seventies when she studied Russian and French at University in Bratislava and just met my dad. You can't see it in the picure, but I am sure she was rocking the socks in shoes trend :-)

Oh yes, this here is a special edition Diana lomo camera that I picked for one of you :-) The guys at lomography.sk love the idea of Vintage streestyle album and are giving this camera to one of you (who sends in a picture) as a little reward for your effort. The rules are simple: the lomography guys will pick the picture they like the most (I will be voting as well), but to be fair, we will take in account the number of likes and comments under the published pictures. Deadline: end of March! Looking forward!

P.S. Ak nemáte kde fotku naskenovať, môžete zájsť do lomography embassy v Bratislave, kde to pre vás s radosťou urobia.

Prêt-à-click

Just got back from freeeezing Ostrava, 5 below zero and show flakes the size of my fist all weekend while shooting spring streetstyle for Avion Ostrava. All the people I met there are my personal heroes because of that. This is only a taste of the streets. Now some links worth spending time at for you :-)

1. A very recent interview with Scott and Garance in New York Magazine, ici.
Čerstvý rozhovor so Scottom a Garance pre New York Magazine tutok.

2. When I feel like escaping to a beautiful, pure place, I go to the world of nevara. I love this girl's way of seeing the world, her gentle images talk to me.
Kedykoľvek túžim zmiznúť do iného, čistého a krásneho sveta, utekám do world of nevara. Jej spôsob videnia, cítenia, fotenia, písania mi je veľmi blízky a vždy pohladí.

3. Yummy. Just discovered two new local food blogs, the Slovak Little Cooking Diary and the Czech Bohemian Life. All right, I am off to have a look into the fridge, have a wonderful week! :-)
P.S. For a chance to get a cute new Lomo camera, check back here tomorrow!
Mňam. Tento týždeň som objavila dva nové lokálne food blogy, slovenský Little Cooking Diary a český Bohemian Life. Tak, tak, idem ja skontrolovať obsah chladničky, krásny týždeň prajem! :-)
P.S. Ak by ste radi stali majiteľmi krásneho nového Lomo foťáku, zajtra sem mrknite jedným očkom!

Inspiration: Lomography

So, here's the story. LOMO = Leningradskoye Optiko Mechanichesckoye Obyedinenie (The Leningrad Optical Mechanical Society), ha! There, I almost got crazy typing that :-) Yup, as many wonderful things in life, Lomo started in Russia :-) In 1983 the only thing missing to the perfect life was a machine capturing it. So the first plastic camera known as Lomo Compact Automat was created, spreading across all socialist countries. But, as many wonderful things in life, it was gradually found not to be so perfect and sadly died out.
It was only in the 90's that some young Austrian tourist found an old Lomo in a Czech bazaar, put in a film and were fascinated by the results. The contrast, colours and atmosphere of the pics were very unique to the digital era. As they say, the rest is history. And the future is analog :-)
To see all the cameras and find out more go to here (Slovak) or here (worldwide).

Kde bolo tam bolo...

Naschmarkt in Vienna by FishEye.

FishEye at Pohoda festival. Can it already be summer, please? Rybie oko na Pohode. Ja už si prosím leto, dobre?

I own the FishEye and the SuperSampler (and would love to have a Diana). Just two of the Lomo cameras that give you a creative space to fool around, and your pics the atmosphere of the film that can not be replaced. Okay, I obviously haven't mastered the SuperSampler yet, these below are only the first pics :-)

Ja mám v zbierke FishEye a SuperSampler (a ešte si brúsim zuby na Dianu). SuperSampler som ešte evidentne nezvládla úplne, iba prvé fotky. Ale potenciál je myslím vidieť :-)

 SuperSampler in Las Vegas

Question of the day: do you own a Lomo? If yes or if not, which one would you like to own? And it is not a question to be polite, I promise :-)

In her style: Olga Karpecká, Winter 2011/part 3

One thing we talked about with Olga for a long time was the evolving of personal style. You could feel she has been strongly influenced by her grandma and living in the small town of Třinec, then coming to Prague and - as an aspiring model - told to dress more model-like, then leaving modeling, colouring her hair red, getting involved in styling and evolving and evolving.... That is what fascinates me. The wonderful ability of humans to evolve and grow and change... I am so thankful for that. And also thankful to Olga for a wonderful day :-)
Style essentials: thrifted trousers, body from C&A, top from New Yorker, CCC boots, coat by grandma and design by Burda, vintage fur collar, brooch a gift from Olga's sister, necklace: H&M showroom and Six.

Style essentials: nohavice zo sekáča, body z C&A, top z New Yorkeru, čižmy z CCC, kabátik šila babička podľa Burdy, vintage kožušinový límec, brošňa jazveca od sesty, náhrdelníky: H&M showroom a Six.

In her style: Olga Karpecká, Winter 2011/part 2

One of the reasons I wanted to take Olga's pictures is that she has a mainly fashion blog, look (you can call her Durduin), where she mostly writes about fashion and her adventures as an aspiring stylist. But only very rarely would you see pictures of her, which is quite a shame, I think :-)
On the other hand I (as a copywriter by profession) admire that in a very visual world there is a blog discussing a very visual subject such as fashion, only by using words. Oh, once you're there, try to find her article about the red lipstick. Only in Czech, but so vivid! :-)
During the day, Olga took me to the local Megasekáč thrift store, where she is a regular, thrifting unique pieces for shootings. Or just for the love of it. Personally, I love my leather boots for 30 CZK :-)
Style essentials: grandma's vintage skirt, body from C&A, cardigan from Bershka, thrifted boots and leather bag, coat: from thrifted material, sewn by grandma, design by Burda.

Ja som so svojimi koženými botičkami za 30 CZK preveľmi spokojná :-)
Style essentials: vintage sukňa po babičke, body z C&A, svetrík z Bershky, boty z blšieho trhu a kožená taška zo sekáča, kabát: vintage látka zo second handu, ušila babička podľa Burdy.

In her style: Olga Karpecká, Winter 2011/part 1

There will be no preview to this sixth edition of In her style, we'll go in medias res. Simply because that's how Olga is to me - no dancing around, no preview this, preview that... look, this is what you get. So pure, clear and outspoken. Like when you suddenly meet people not touched by the survival fakeness of big cities. Since I first met her on the street, I wanted to take her picture again. To me, Olga has this very intriguing quality - she is very straightforward, but at the same time you can get lost in the distant worlds flickering in her eyes. Welcome to the first part of this journey :-)

Tentokrát nebude žiadne Preview, iba in medias res. In her style s Olgou Karpeckou. Vitajte. Toto je prvá časť šiestej edície In her style :-)

Style essentials: H&M dress, necklace from H&M showroom, grandma's vintage fur coat, random black scarf and gloves, Sanita clog boots Bella Brutta.

Style essentials: šaty H&M, náhrdelník z H&M showroomu, vintage kožúšok po starej mame, čierne rukavice a šatka omotaná okolo krku, Sanita dreváko-čižmy z Bella Brutta (tzv. "chuňáče").

1. Thanks to Hanka Převrátilová at La Femme magazine for featuring me as one of the guests commenting on spring trends. Ironically enough, for as long as I remember I didn't consider blue an option in my wardrobe (and hey, jeans don't count!). Thankfully times and tastes change, so another thanks goes to Káťa at H&M showroom for some fine blue pieces in my and my guy's wardrobe! :-)*

2. The first ever Denamit Design Days are on in Bratislava, photos from the opening exhibition here. Further time schedule here. I also plan on to visit Ivana Šáteková's exhibition, here. Oh yeah, and bookmark Citylife, it is a pretty good guide to what's on in Bratislava.

3. A young photographer with an eye for beauty is Jakub Gulyás. I especially love his series Denisa. Check out his work here.
Fotky tu.

4. A short, but big THANK YOU to all you, coming back to this blog. I am really humbled by the growing number of visitors and followers - I feel so thankful and overjoyed! Jokingly I promised my guy a fine sushi dinner in case I get 300 followers. Well, the dinner was extremely fine, he sends his regards :-) AND he's paying the dinner at 400. So yeah, thanks, guys! :-) Have a great week!
A pri 400-ke platí on, ha! :-)))
Krásny týždeň prajem!

Little Miss Teddy Bear, Brno streetstyle for Avion

I think you can say a lot about kids by looking at their toys. I can't really imagine this little girl with a Barbie doll in her hands.
I don't suppose you need to know the following, but it got me thinking and about my favorite toys :-) Which were: newspapers and magazines (my father is a journalist), a dark brown Teddy bear I used to dress up (in pieces I have sewn), a stuffed textile doll named Anča that smelled bad (I once got sick in my bed and well, she was there...) but I refused to give her up the more, and a little plastic penguin that I had since I was a baby. Yeah, yeah, Little Miss Sentimental :-) So, what were your favorite toys and what do they tell about you? :-)

Mám pocit, že podľa hračiek dokážete dosť odčítať dieťa. Napríklad túto malú slečnu si neviem predstaviť s Barbie v ruke.
Nie, že by ste nasledujúce informácie potrebovali k životu, ale donútilo ma to zosumarizovať si moje obľúbené hračky :-) A boli to: noviny akéhokoľvek druhu (otec je novinár), tmavohnedý plyšový maco, ktorého som obliekala (do vlastnoručne pozlátaných kúskov), látková bábika Anča, ktorá troška... no, smrdela (raz mi prišlo v postieľke megazle a ona si to proste odniesla...), ale ja som sa jej práve preto odmietla vzdať, a malý gumený pingvin, ktorého som mala od nepamäti. Little Miss Sentimental :-) Čo boli vaše obľúbené hračky a čo to o vás hovorí? :-)

Sonia R., Brno streetstyle

Her name is not really Sonia R., she only wears her coat and bag :-) Seeing this lovely lady on the street took me by surprise. And she was just so nice, and we chatted about her pharmacy studies in Bratislava, living in Brno and shopping with her daughter who lives in Paris. And I forgot to ask her name. But she made my day :-)
I am planning a short Paris trip at the beginning of March, but it already feels like I've been there.

Začiatkom marca plánujem víkend v Paríži a lepšie naladenie som si ani nemohla priať :-)

Music to my ears, Brno streetstyle for Avion

A little preview from the Brno shooting and a casting call for Ostrava at the same time: if you would like to be one of the people from Ostrava representing the style of the town, send your photo (or the photo of your mum, granny, cousin, lover, dog), full name and phone number to the following address: ostrava@styl-avion.com. Looking forward meeting you! :-)

Malá ukážka z fotenia v Brne a zároveň výzva na casting pre Ostravu: ak chceš byť jedným z ľudí, reprezentujúcich štýl Ostravy, pošli do konca tohto týždňa fotku svoju (mamy, starej mamy, bratranca, sestry, brata, psa), celé meno a telefónne číslo na túto adresu: ostrava@styl-avion.com
Fotenie prebehne 19. - 20. februára v Ostrave. Teším sa na vás! :-)

The tie that wasn't there, Brno streetstyle

Nothing much to say. Only that after this weekend spent shooting for Avion in Brno, I am in love with the city and its people... This young man and his dog weren't part of the shooting, they just bumped into us by chance. For a second there I thought I am back in London again :-)

Prêt-à-click

My dears, here's the deal. There are sooo many amazing things, ideas, links, people, project, experiences I want to share with you and sooo.... little blog space. So I decided to put them nicely together (more-less regularly) in one post: Prêt-à-click. Ready?

1. The second issue of the áno! online magazine is out. With my second cover in a row... I feel sooo.... okay, I think it is actually because of the amazing Katarína on the cover. The picture comes from this series we took together. Check out her blog and paintings here. Love her!
Jej blog a maľby nájdete tu. Úžasná je!

2.  The brand Puojd came out with a great idea. A unique, creative, design Valentine's gift. If you're not a Valentine's Day fan, just come up with another reason to take part :-)

3. I love, love the pictures of Max Ogorov.  Also taken on film. No, the Marika you'll see there, is not me. But if he would want to photograph me...hmmmmm, let me think.... Hell yes!
Veľmi, veľmi sa mi páči poetika fotiek Maxa Ogorova. Tiež fotené na film. Nie, tá Marika ktorú tam uvidíte, nie som ja. Ale kebyže ma chce odfotiť, nebudem sa brániť rukami-nohami-zubami-nechtami.

Have a great weekend! I'll spend it in Brno shooting for Avion. Wish me good luck and good light! :-)
Krásny víkend prajem! Ja ho strávim v Brne fotením pre Avion. Držte mi palce a svetlo! :-)
