White, at Tel Aviv Fashion Week

Speaking of white... there is something going on about it and it starting to appear on the streets, in the shows, white all around.... like a longing for spring, for summer, for easy breeze, clear skies, warm air... It was already present at the Fashion Week in Tel Aviv as well. So here's the best of white at some shows, enjoy! (In case you wonder what's wrong with the first picture, it comes from a film that I was so quick and smart to damage with light... but I love the result, maybe I should experiment with it some more, haha! :-)

Keď už sme pri tej bielej... niečo je vo vzduchu a biela sa objavuje čoraz častejšie, na prehliadkach aj na ulici.... ako túžba po jari, lete, teple, ľahkom vánku, jasnom nebi a voňavom vzduchu.. Jej prítomnosť bola výrazná aj na Tel Aviv Fashion Weeku. Best of biela z jeho prehliadok, nech sa ľúbi! (V prípade, ak sa vám prvá fotka zdá byť nejaká divná, je z filmu, ktorý sa mi podarilo veľmi šikovne, rýchlo a troška nečakane poškodiť osvietením... ale výsledok sa mi páči, asi s tým budem exprimentovať, haha! :-)

Love Stuff: The colour white

As much as I love black, grey and all neutrals to wear, interior wise I feel best with a lot of white around me. I probably wasn't born with this default setting, but kind of grew to it. For example, while working at a big ad agency, the offices were all painted colourful, complemented with a bright, colourful pieces of furniture, which was meant to keep the energy and creativity level up and I guess it worked, haha :-) But I remember going home and loving the peaceful, serene white (combined with wood and neutrals). White is also slowly creeping into my closet and mindset (remember the project of white shirts? There you go!) Recently Garance wrote about her white jeans here, hm, I might just go and dig them out from my summer stuff :-) What about you, what colour do you love to live in or love to wear?
On the picture: Swan from a swan merry-go-round from Jarmila Džuppová (my first ever painting I fell in love with and bough. And it hangs on a white wall), white rain boots (borrowed from my sis before the summer festival season and never given back, pst!), white picture frame from IKEA, white ceramic vase from an Antiques market, white conductor bag from an Army Shop.

Tak, ako rada nosím čiernu, šedú a neutrálne farby, v životnom priestore sa najlepšie cítim v bielej, veľa bielej okolo mňa. S touto diagnózou som sa nenarodila, zrejme sa vyvinula sa postupne :-) Napríklad počas práce vo veľkej reklamnej agentúre sme mali všetky kancelárie vymaľované na veselé, žiarivé farby, s farebnými kúskami nábytku, aby nám farbičky burcovali energiu a kreativitu, a myslím, že to celkom fungovalo, haha :-) Ale pamätám si, že som sa vždy tešila do pokojného, svetlého, ticho bieleho interiéru (v kombinácii s drevom a prírodnými tónmi). Biela sa mi veľmi opatrne vkráda aj do šatníka (viď projekt bielych košieľ, ta-dam). Nedávno Garance písala o svojich bielych džínsoch, myslím, že ich idem nájsť niekde v hĺbke šatníka medzi letnými vecami... :-) Čo vy, v ktorých farbách najradšej chodíte alebo žijete?
Na obrázku: Obraz "Labuť z labuťového kolotoča" od Jarmily Džuppovej (prvý obraz, ktorý som si kedy kúpila. Samozrejme visí na bielej stene :-), biele gumáky (požičané od sestry pred letným festivalom a odvtedy nevrátené, pst!), biele obrazové rámy z IKEA, biela váza z burzy starožitností, biela sprievodcovská taška z Army Shop-u. Krásny deň prajem!

A very timely photo, regarding the on going ball season, sent by Barbora R.: "This is a photo taken at the 3rd Bratislava Ball in 1962, and a special favorite of mine. On the right from my grandmother Viera is my grandfather and on the left is a friend of theirs. The way my grandma looked at that time I highly doubt he wasn't jealous of my grandfather. I thinks his look says it all... I also really appreciate grandfather's bow tie (now you couldn't force him to wear one)."

Jedna k aktuálnej plesovej sezóne, ktorú poslala Barbora R.: "Plesová fotka z tretieho Bratislavského bálu v roku 1962 je moja špeciálne obľúbená. Napravo od babky Viery stojí dedko, naľavo ich kamarát. Keď som videla, ako vtedy babka vyzerala, pochybujem, že dedkovi nezávidel. Jeho pohľad napovedá veľa... Hrozne oceňujem dedkovho motýlika (teraz by ho už nikto neprinútil dať si ho)."

Začiatok jedného experimentu: fotky pre mladú slovenskú funky kapelu Walter Schnitzelsson. Prvé skúšobné fotky zo skúšobne a ich hudbu nájdete tu. Z nejakých pre mňa pocitových dôvodov vo mne ich sound evokuje chill out pocit na austrálskej surferskej pláži... nech sa ľúbi! :-)

Love Stuff: Cashmere

So, here's my theory from last week's winter wonderland: when nature's elements hit you hard, you have to fight back with nature's elements too. I know, I know, no Nobel prize for that, but honestly, with this recent polyester revival in the shops, how much lambs wool, merino, camel hair or cashmere is in your winter wardrobe right now?
So, I have been watching out for cashmere for some time now. And since I have inherited tons of good stuff from my two dear grandmas (like some great recipes, an old wooden cupboard, a clay vase and plate, the shape of my face, and tons of good traits of course, ha!), but no fine cashmere sweater, I decided I will have to be the one whose cashmere will be passed onto the next generations (cashmere has this quality that it last and last and last... a very fascinating feature these fast paced days. More about it here.) So I got this neutral grey pashmina, which seams perfectly useable for all seasons, is oh so soft, lightweight, warm, and has a beautiful structure, I simply love it! Hereby I am sending my comfortably warm regards to the dear cashmere goats of Nepal (and this finally first Slovak cashmere online shop) where this piece came from. The tricky part? Real cashmere honestly has to be regarded as an investment into your wardrobe (think of your grandchildren again :-), but since I also just got a fine, grey wool coat for a few bucks from a second hand shop, I think it is kind of balanced out :-) I wish you a warm and safe Friday!

Takže, vrtochy zimy za posledné týždne ma priviedli k teórii, že keď vás príroda skúša, treba sa brániť zbraňami/materiálmi prírody samotnej. Ja viem, ja viem, veľmi objavné :-) ale úprimne, pri aktuálnej polyesterovej módnej vlne v obchodoch, koľko ovčej vlny, merina, ťavej srsti alebo kašmíru obsahujú veci vo vašom aktuálnom zimnom šatníku?
Kašmír som chcela vyskúšať už dávno, a keďže po mojich drahých starých mamách som síce zdedila krásne veci (skvelé recepty, štýlovú drevenú skrinku, hlinené taniere a džbán, črty tváre a samozrejme kopec dobrých vlastností, ha!), avšak žiadny fajný kašmírový svetrík, rozhodla som sa, že ja budem teda tá, z ktorej kašmíru sa budú tešiť ďalšie generácie :-) (Kašmír totižto má tú schopnosť dlhovekosti, a to ma v dnešnej urýchlenej dobe fascinuje. Viac o jeho vlastnostiach tu.) Po dlhom váhaní som si vybrala neutrálne šedú pašmínu, ktorá mi príde dokonale použiteľná pre všetky ročné obdobia a príležitosti. Je neuveriteľne mäkká, ľahká, hrejivá, a má krásnu štruktúru. Týmto posielam teplé pozdravy milým kašmírskym kozám do Nepálu (a tomuto konečne prvému slovenskému online shopu s kašmírom), odkiaľ tento kúsok pochádza. Háčik? Pravý kašmír treba naozaj brať ako investíciu do šatníka (a šatníka svojich vnúčat), ale keďže som si nedávno kúpila v sekáči mäkký, šedý vlnený kabát za pár šupov, myslím, že sa to celkom vyrovnáva :-) Prajem krásny piatok s nohami, rukami a krkom v teple!

If you think this is just an average picture, take a better look at the girl on the right. The picture was sent by Karolína K.: "I am sending a picture of my aunt, grandma and mom Růženka (from left) taken in 1985 during a summer holiday in Bulgaria. The most interesting is my mom's outfit. First I laughed it off, even though mom was convincing me she was totally stylish at that time. Later I realized that if the girl from the picture was to walk through Prague dressed like that right now, she would be a style icon. Short hair with a wave, rolled up, high waisted chinos (which she sew herself) and socks in sandals are having a revival. And a little detail at the end: While posing for the pic, mom was pregnant, but she didn't know that at that time. Have a great day."

Ak vám fotka na prvý pohľad príde obyčajná, lepšie sa prizrite slečne napravo. Fotku poslala Karolína K.: "Posílám fotku mé (zleva) tety, babičky a mamky Růženky z roku 1985 během dovolené v Bulharsku. Nejzajímavější je maminčin outfit. Nejdříve jsem se mu smála, máma oponovala, že na tu dobu je naprosto moderně ohozená. Pak mi došlo, že kdyby se ta holka z fotky dnes prošla po pražských Příkopech, byla by taktéž za stylovou labuť. Krátké vlasy s vlnou, kalhoty nad kotníky s vysokým pasem (které si jako krejčová ušila sama) a nepřehlédnutelné ponožky nabírají druhý dech. A něco na závěr - máma je na této fotce těhotná, ale v době focení o tom ještě neví. Přeji hezký zbytek dne."

Ora's place, Tel Aviv

One of the very peaceful and inspiring moments for me in Tel Aviv was meeting Ora, where else, on the street :-) Well, in a organic food shop, to be exact, where I stopped by one afternoon for some surely very healthy, strangely green coloured juice type of thing.
I already told you about the stylish ladies of Tel Aviv, and Ora had this serenity and feeling of peace about her. Plus I loved her greyish hair and her grey, basic pieces with little details. So I asked to photograph her, we started to talk and ended up talking for like two hours over coffee at her house nearby... I just simply couldn't resist when she invited me. I confess, I love, LOVE other people's living spaces (my guy makes fun of me, for one of my favorite things is to walk around suburbs after dark, when the lights are on in the windows, trying to catch a glimpse of how people live... I know, creepy creepy Tonbo...). Anyway, Ora, an artist and healer was great to talk to about coffee, love, art, travel and life as such... Take this as an invitation to her lovely, light living space full of flowers, art, old pieces of furniture and pottery. Enjoy!

Jeden z mojich najinšpiratívnejších a najpokojnejších momentov v Tel Avive bolo stretnutie s Orou. Kde inde, na ulici :-) Presnejšie v bio obchodíku, kde som sa jedno popoludnie zastavila na nie príliš lákavo vyzerajúci, ale určite nesmierne zdravý nápoj divoko zelenej farby.
Už som vám spomínala staršie štýlové dámy Tel Avivu a Ora zo seba navyše vyžarovala láskavý pokoj a nadhľad. Plus ma berú prírodne šedivé vlasy, šedý základ oblečenia so zaujímavými doplnkami a tak som ju požiadala o fotku. Pri tej príležitosti sme sa zarozprávali na ulici a pokračovali nad kávou v jej dome neďaleko... Jednoducho som neodolala pozvaniu nakuknúť do jej životného priestoru, bývanie iných ma nadmieru baví (chlap si zo mňa robí srandu, lebo jednou z mojich obľúbených činností je prechádzať sa ulicami po zotmení, keď sa v oknách svieti a ja môžem pozorovať bývanie a život ľudí... tak, Tonbo je voyeur :-) Každopádne, s Orou, umelkyňou a liečiteľkou sa skvele rozprávalo o káve, láske, umení, cestovaní a živote ako takom... Vy príjmite pozvanie do jej milého, presvetleného životného priestoru plného kvetín, umenia, starých kúskov nábytkov a keramiky. Nech sa ľúbi!

So, did I already mention we are just about to renovate a new apartment we bought with my guy? I hope you like interior design, because probably I will be on repetitive mode on this subject... I am actually thinking about dedicating a series of posts and photos to this renovation...
Ehm, spomínala som tu už, že sme s chlapom mojím pred rekonštrukciou nedávno kúpeného bytu? Dúfam, že vás interiérový dizajn baví, lebo táto téma sa tu bude z času na čas opakovane objavovať... Dokonca rozmýšlam o novej sérii postov a fotiek venovanej tejto prerábke...

1. This drawing is from the lovely toito architects who are working on our renovation. Hey, who wants 3D visualization when you can have such drawings? :-) You can check out a first proposal of our future interior here. Some things have change since then, but trust me, that library stays! :-)
Táto kresba je od skvelých toito architektov, s ktorými spolupracujeme na rekonštrukcii nášho bytu. Kto by už chcel 3D vizualizácie návrhu, keď môžete mať takéto skvelé kresbičky? :-) Na prvý návrh nášho budúceho interiéru sa môžete pozrieť tu. Niektoré veci sa už v tom návrhu zmenili, ale tá knižnica je pevným bodom! Dokonca zvažujeme nápad vydávať čitateľské preukazy, haha. Možno nám to pomôže našetriť na zbytok interiéru :-)

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Ľudmila holding Benjamín's hand

Though this picture may not be the sharpest, it has TONS of style and atmosphere. And a message... sent by Barbora O.: "My grandma has been wearing pearls all her life, as well as her hair in a bun and pearl shine lipstick. She loves the colour purple and I inherited from her, apart from big feet (size 7), the exact same height (176 cm) and the most beautiful, straight legs in the whole family.
My father, her youngest son, probably always wanted to be a captain. In the recent years he's been sailing the seas on his yacht, but his love for tilting top decks I certainly did not inherit. Apart from the extra fine hair I do have his duck-like upper lip, long fingernail beds and when I yawn I feel like I look the most like him.
I have no idea in which harbour or which year this picture was taken, but they were probably posing for my grandpa Zdenko - the wisest book of the family. He captured this elegant dame with creeper shoes, with her son in a cute cardigan and with way too short trousers. I do miss the good parts of both of them. Since we don't really see eye to eye these days, at least here and now I send my greetings to them :-)"

Aj keď táto fotka nie je najostrejšia, má v sebe štýlu a atmosféry za tri. A odkaz... poslaný Barbarou O.: "Moja stará mama nosí odjakživa perly, češe si drdol, rúžuje pery na perleťovo, miluje fialovú farbu a zdedila som po nej, okrem veľkej laby (číslo 41), na centimeter rovnakú výšku (176 cm) a úplne rovné - najkrajšie nohy z celej famílie. Môj otec, Ľudmilin najmladší syn, zrejme vždy chcel byť námorným kapitánom. Posledné roky brázdi moria aspoň plachetnicou a lásku k nakláňajúcej sa palube som po ňom rozhodne nepoerbovala. Okrem extra jemných vlasov mám po ňom kačaciu vrchnú peru, dlhé lôžka nechtové a keď zívam, mám pocit, že sa naňho podobám najviac.
Netuším v akom prístave, ani v ktorom roku je táto fotka spravená, ale zrejme zapózovali môjmu starému otcovi Zdenkovi - najmúdrejšej knižnici rodiny. Zvečnil elegantnú dámu v platformách, so synom v peknom svetríku a havlovkách. To dobré, z nich oboch, mi vie chýbať. Keďže si teraz moc nerozumieme, tak ich aspoň týmto zdravím :-)"

Velice šarmatná novinárka z francúzskej Elle (ak si dobre pamätám). Jej šarmu neodolal ani tento džentlmen, ktorý sa znenazdajky objavil v obraze, chcel si ju fotiť tiež a aj s ňou byť fotený :-)

Galit Levi, Tel Aviv Fashion Week

With the vintage theme right now I remembered this breathtakingly beautiful Galit Levi show at Tel Aviv Fashion Week. Galit is considered the Israeli queen of bridal fashion, and it definitely showed when the catwalk was filled with beauties covered in gentle and provoking lace, flowing, draped materials and details like from another world.

Popri aktuálnej vintage tematike som si spomenula na túto krásnu Galit Levi prehliadku na Tel Aviv Fashion Weeku. Galit je považovaná za izraelsku kráľovnú svadobnej módy, a bolo jednoznačné, že svoje remeslo osvláda, keď mólo zaplavili víly s jemnou aj provokatívnou čipkou, nadýchanými a nazberanými látkami a detailami ako z iného sveta.

With carnival time approaching, here is some great vintage inspiration. Photo sent by Zuzana H.: "On the picture is my great grand mother Irena Žufová (her maiden name), the third from right in the clown costume. The picture was taken in 1916 in Budapest, where she studied to be a teacher. At that time it was quite rare and a big deal, there were not so many women studying or having the means to study. She was a very wise and smart woman, from a respected family. I was always told I look like a copy of her. I never believed it until I was shown this particular photograph. Since then I can't stop staring at it, the likeness in undoubtable."

Skvelá vintage inšpirácia na blížiace sa fašiangy, maškarné a karnevaly. Fotku poslala Zuzana H.: "Na fotke je moja prababka Irena Žufová (ešte za slobodna), v strednom rade tretia z prava, v kostýme klauna. Fotka bola robená v roku 1916 v Budapešti, kde študovala pedagogickú školu. Na tú dobu to bola dosť rarita a bolo okolo toho veľké Haló, vtedy bolo len málo žien, ktoré študovali a ktoré si to hlavne mohli finančne dovoliť. Bola to veľmi rozhľadená a inteligentná žena, pochádzajúca z váženej rodiny, o ktorej mi vždy hovorili, že som jej vernou kópiou. Nikdy som tomu moc neverila, ale keď mi bola ukázaná práve táto fotka, nevedela som sa na ňu vynadívať, tá podoba je proste neodškriepiteľná."

I just love pictures with stories! This one sent by Zuzana H.: "On the picture is my great grandfather, posing with his dog in an amazing suit with a bow tie (don't forget the stylish dotted handkerchief peaking out of his pocket :-) The picture was taken around 1923 in Rimavská Sobota, where he worked as a dental technician. His name was Schedelbauer, but no one from the family remembers his first name. The reason for that is simple, he divorced my great grandmother when my grandmother was still an infant. So there was no happy ending. There is even a story going around in the family that after he re-married, he mysteriously disappeared, for which his second wife is to be blamed, who is said to have poisoned him, because of his wealth which was pretty substantial for that time."

Fotky s príbehmi sú najviac! Túto poslal Zuzana H.: "Na fotke je môj pradedko, ktorý pózuje so svojim verným psíkom v neskutočne skvelom saku s motýlikom (a netreba zabudnúť aj na tu štýlovú bodkovanú vreckovku, ktorá mu trčí z náprsného vrecka :-) Fotka je približne z roku 1923 a bola fotená v Rimavskej Sobote, kde pracoval ako zubný technik. Volal sa Schedelbauer, ale krstné meno si žiaľ už nikto z rodiny nepamätá. Dôvod je jednoduchý, rozviedol sa totiž z mojou prababkou ešte keď bola moja stará mama malá. Takže žiadny happy end sa nekonal. V rodine sa dokonca traduje historka, že potom, ako sa druhý raz oženil, záhadne zmizol. Pripisuje sa to jeho druhej žene, ktorá ho ževraj otrávila, samozrejme kvôli majetku, ktorý bol na tú dobu značne veľký."

So you know this blog is mostly about people. Good. It still is. But there is this orange leather bag that is about to change it. Oh yes, because once you have a bag that men compliment you on (true story!), you know it is something special :-) So here we are, introducing a new feature called Love Stuff. Simply about stuff I love and can't live without (okay, if I really wanted to, I technically could, you understand, but I don't really want to right now, and it makes me happy :-)
So this year I had been a wonderfully good girl for sure and so ~~my guy~~ Santa brought me this a-ma-zing big, leather, bright orange bag from Deux filles en fil. Actually, I was meeting my guy ~~Santa~~ in a shop for some shoe hunting. For him. Because he values my opinion. On shoes. And other stuff. I mean, in the end he goes and buys whatever he wants. But values my opinion. There you go, haha. Anyway, I arrived first into the shop and while I was waiting I tried all the bags of course. As I was holding this orange beauty for the second time, turning in front of the mirror and observing it ~~myself~~ from every angle, he walked into the shop. He got the clue. And I got a major surprise under the Christmas tree!

What I love about this big beauty is that it fits my camera, films, my laptop, my Moleskine (oh, I should do a post about my Moleskines), my keys, my phone, my chewing gums, my lips gloss (another post, check), tissues, wallet, tons of papers, post-it notes, some groceries.... then it all gets mixed in and I can't find anything anymore, haha. I also love that it is made of one piece of left-over leather, so you can just spread it, roll it up, or build it up with studs on the side of it. And the strap can be used as belt. And I also love the fact that it is probably the very first orange piece I have ever owned. Somehow, I am no fan of the orange colour in my wardrobe, but this cheers me up every time. Samozrejme viete, že tento blog je v prvom rade o ľuďoch. Dobre. A teraz aj o tejto oranžovej taške, ktorá sa chystá toto nastavenie ľahko narušiť. Tak, tak, pretože ak raz máte tašku, ktorú si všimnú a pochvália aj muži (pravdivá story!), niečo sa deje :-) A tak predstavujem novú rubriku na blogu zvanú Love Stuff, ľúbené a ľúbezné to veci, bez ktorých nemôžem žiť (tak kebyže naozaj chcem, tak bez nich samozrejme dokážem žiť, ale práve sa mi nechce, a robia mi radosť, ha.)
A keďže som celý rok poslúchala a bola dobrá, tak mi ~~môj chlap~~ Ježiško priniesol túto ú-žas-nú, veľkú, žiarivo oranžovú tašku od francúzskych Deux filles en fil. Ono to bolo tak... dali sme si s mojím chlapom ~~Ježiškom~~ rande v obchode s topánkami. Preňho. Lebo si váži môj názor. Na topánky, a mnoho ďalších vecí. Síce si nakoniec kúpi aj tak to, čo chce on. Ale váži si môj názor :-) Každopádne, ja som do obchodu dorazila prvá a kým som naňho čakala, všetko som obchytala, špeciálne kabelky a tašky a keď som sa s touto už druhýkrát krútila pred zrkadlom a obdivovala ju ~~seba s oranžovou taškou~~ z každého uhla, vošiel on, rýchlo pochopil, a ja som potom pod vianočným stromčekom nechápala.

Čo na tejto veľkej oranžovej taške ľúbim, je, že sa mi do nej vmestí foťák, filmy, notebook, Moleskine (och, o Moleskinoch musím urobiť jeden post), kľúče, telefón, žuvačky, výživný lesk na pery (ha, ďalší post), peňaženka, kopec papierov, post-it papierikov so zoznamom toho, čo nesmiem zabudnúť, nejaký nákup... a potom sa to tam všetko pomixuje a už tam nič neviem nájsť, haha. Tiež ľúbim, že je robená z jedného kusa kože, ktorá ostala z niečoho iného, a dá sa celá rozobrať, stočiť a preniesť a potom zasa vyskladať pomocou cvokov, ktoré má na bokoch. A ramienka sa dajú nosiť ako opasok. A zvláštnym spôsobom je to môj ~~pravdepodobne~~ prvý a jediný oranžový kus v šatníku. S oranžovou sa celoživotne obchádzame, ale táto ma zakaždým rozveselí. Máte aj vy ľúbezné veci, ktoré vás rozveslia? Aj keď je mínus milión stupňov? (Myslím, že ďalšia časť s tým bude musieť nejak súvisieť!) Prajem krásny utorok!

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Alena

I specially love series of photographs that nicely show a person's style through a period of time. These three pictures are such, sent by Tereza K.: "On the pictures is my grandma Alena. She was really beautiful and loved to dress up. She just had to be elegant and chic, a true dame :-) For a while she used to work as a model and was told all the time she looked like Sophia Loren. All the pictures are from the 60's. The picture with the car is from England (the lady with the beer), the second one was taken at the airport in Prague, where grandma used to work (the lady with the basket) and the first one is from her modeling times."

Medzi všetkými vintage fotkami sa mi zdajú extra zaujímavé série, ktoré ukazujú štýl človeka v rôznych situáciách alebo časovom rozmedzí. Také sú aj tieto, ktoré poslal Tereza K.: "Na fotkách je má babička Alena. Byla moc krásná a ráda a pěkně oblékala. Vždy musela být elegantní a šik , prostě dáma :-). Dokonce chvíli pracovala jako modelka a každý o ní říká, že vypadala jako Sophia Loren. Fotky jsou z 60.let. Fotka u auta je z Anglie (dáma s půllitrem), druhá je focená na letišti v Praze, kde babička pracovala (s košíkem) a ta první je modelkovská."

Working (fashion journalist) girl, Tel Aviv Fashion Week

I am totally in at this working girl attitude. Yup, if you have work to do, run around, stand around, you better be comfortable. That's right, just because you work as a fashion editor, doesn't mean you have to run around in high heels. Exception: if you want to stand above all the photographers to have a good shooting angle, a pair of high heels just might do the trick :-)
In general, I had the feeling people working in the industry in Tel Aviv go their own way, create their own styles. One evening I overheard a conversation about why there is no market for big international fashion magazines in Israel: apparently once something comes out as a trend, no one wants to wear it, no one buys magazines that tell you what to wear this season. Now, I repeat, this was an overheard conversation, so don't take it from me as granted, but the thought of such a strong desire for individualism just stuck with me...

Za "podnikavú dívku" dávam ruku hore a opätky dole. Ak máte prácu na celý deň, pobehovať, postávať, komfort je prvý. Tak. Len preto, že ste módna novinárka, neznamená, že musíte pobehovať v opätkoch. Výnimka: ak chcete mať dobrý pohľad ponad hlavy ostatných fotografov, pár centi navyše vám môžu pomôcť. Overené :-)
Vo všeobecnosti som mala pocit, že ľudia z branže v Tel Avive si idú svojou cestou a tvoria si vlastný štýl. Jeden podvečer som prepočula rozhovor o tom, prečo v Izraeli nie je trh pre veľké medzinárodné módne tituly: vraj v momente, keď je niečo prezentované ako trend, nikto to nechce nosiť, nikto si (vraj) nekúpi časopis, ktorý mu bude hovoriť, čo má nosiť túto sezónu. Opakujem, bola to prepočutá konverzácia, tak to odo mňa berte s rezervou, ale tá myšlienka silnej túžby po individualizme vo mne nejak zostala...

I think it's time for another round of Vintage streetstyle. For those of you who don't know, here is the main idea and the rules again. This round will run for two months, until the end of March. I still have some unpublished pictures left that some of you sent in and you are still free to send in vintage picutres from your family albums showing some serious style :-)
By the way, the young man above is my dad, sometime in the seventies, in front of the Bratislava castle. Sooo handsome, I know, and he still is, hi dad! :-)

Last but not least. Evelyn and her white shirt... or what's left of it :-) The amazingly out-of-this-world Evelyn took this challenge her way and transformed the white shirt into a play of costumes and roles... She took the collar and the button line (yep, that's all) and sewed it onto an old dress, added a ballerina's tutu, a few bandages, a touch of red.... closed her eyes, then opened them... and the broken doll came alive... Honestly, I was really nervous shooting Evelyn, because there are already tons of amazing pictures of her (and I understand, you just can't stop taking her picture) and she herself is a very talented photographer... However, the main challenge here was to find a setting for her :-) Luckily this showroom of designer furniture let us photograph on their beautifully lit floor and psycho wall. Thanks!

Also, now is the time to thank YOU for following this transformation of 13 white shirts into unique pieces, defined by their owners. I feel this is not the end of discoveries in the field of "Man makes the clothes"... still, just wiped a tear from my eye! :-) Thank you, have a wonderful Friday!

Je to tu, posledná transformácia košele (respektíve toho, čo z nej zostalo :-) Od začiatku mi bolo jasné, že sériu uzavrie neuveriteľne mimozemská Evelyn, ktorá to celé poňala úplne a čisto podľa seba, a tak sa z bielej košele stal kostým a plátno pre hru... Z košele zobrala Evelyn golier a pás s gombíkmi (yup, to je všetko), našila ich na staršie šaty, pridala tylovú baletnú sukňu, pár obväzov, dotyk červenej... zavrela oči, otvorila ich... a zlomená bábika ožila... Z fotenia som bola nervózna určite viac ja, keďže tony nádherných fotiek Evelyn už zapĺňajú virtuálny priestor (a úplne to chápem, nechcete ju prestať fotiť) a ona sama je talentovaná fotografka... Najväčšou výzvou však bolo nájsť miesto na jej kostým :-) Náhoda-nenáhoda, tento showroom dizajnového nábytku nás nechal fotiť na ich parádne podsvietenej dlážke a psycho kachličkovej stene. Ďakujeme!

Taktiež, teraz je ten správny čas poďakovať VÁM, že ste sledovali tranformáciu 13 košieľ na jedinečné kúsky, prispôsobené štýlu svojich nositeliek. Mám pocit, že toto nie je koniec objavovania myšlienky, že Človek robí šaty... ale aj tak mi slza upadla! :-) Ďakujem, krásny piatok prajem!

I just realized that all the pictures I took so far of Katarína on the street, were on her bike, like this one or this one. What I truly love about this girl and her style is that she is fearless, here combining the white shirt with a dotted tie, red suspenders, colourful checkered trousers from Amsterdam and an ethno scarf as belt. I challenge you to do that and stay graceful, ha! Like with this big Lanvin for H&M dress (on her bike of course). Simply, her personality can carry anything she puts on and she loves to play and dress up. The fun part? She has this amazing ability to be sultry and all modely one moment and cheeky the next one. Oh how I love mother Nature sometimes... Going into the finale of this shirt series, I can safely say, she still does a pretty good job :-)
P.S. Thanks to the Old Town of Bratislava for letting us photograph in Pisztoryho palace.

Práve som si uvedomila, že doteraz som Katarínu na ulici fotila iba na jej bicykli, napríklad tu alebo tu. Čo na nej s láskou obdivujem (medzi inými vecami), je aj jej odvaha a nadhľad, ako napríklad tu, keď skombinovala bielu košelu s bodkovanou kravatou, červenými "húzentróglami", pestrými nohavicami z Amsterdamu a etno šatkou ako opaskom. Som si istá, že toto s gráciou nedá len tak hocikto, ha! Rovnako ako veľké Lanvin for H&M šaty na bicykli (zasa raz na bicykli samozrejme). Jednoducho, jej osobnosť je schopná uniesť čokoľvek a ona sa s tým rada hrá a experimentuje, navyše má zvláštnu schopnosť byť v jednej chvíli zvodná a tajomná, a o milisekundu na to už vysmiaty škriatok. Matička príroda je mocná a ja som jej za to vďačná.... aj vzhľadom na to, že sa blížime do finále tejto košeľovej série, to môžem vyhlásiť s čistým svedomím a kľudom indiána. Howg :-)

The lovely, soft spoken Cina and her shirt worn as a skirt. Cina was also one of the women I photographed in London, here to be exact (if you happen to drop by, say Hello to her!). I was really excited about photographing her for two reasons: one, if you would force me to name 5 people in Bratislava I know and consider naturally stylish, she would fit right there, right along with... oh, that's another story :-) And two: I just recently realized that the first time I met Cina was about a year and a half ago, randomly on the street, here, and loved her style immediately. Just as Sju, she didn't have a lot of time to play and prepare her version of the shirt, I think she was doing it by instinct. Apparently, there is something as a style instinct, no, I correct myself, there has to be such thing... and if there is I think Cina here is a beautiful example of it... now only if one could learn it/mimick it/get hit by it... oh well... :-) Enjoy your Tuesday!

Jemná, milá Cina a jej košeľa vo funkcii sukne. Cina bola druhá žena, ktorú som fotila v Londýne, na tomto mieste, tu presne (ak náhodou pojdete okolo, zamávajte!). Na fotenie som sa tešila hneď z dvoch hlavných dôvodov: poprvé, ak by ste ma donútili na jednej ruke zrátať prirodzene štýlových ľudí, ktorých v Bratislave poznám, áno, presne by tam bola, hneď vedľa... ááále, to je iná story :-) A podruhé, nedávno som si uvedomila, že prvýkrát som ju vlastne stretla asi pred rokom a pol náhodne na ulici, tu aha. Rovnako ako Sju, ani Cina nemala veľa času na rozmýšľanie čo s košeľou a konala inštinktívne. Mám pocit, že existuje niečo ako módny a štýlový inštinkt, nie, beriem späť, odvolávam, opravujem... určite niečo také existuje a Cina je toho krásnym príkladom... už len keby sa to dalo naučiť/odkukať/nakaziť sa... chjo :-) Krásny utorok prajem!

Katarína and her white shirt. I have already photographed Katarína a few times on this blog and oh well, probably will continue doing so :-) I love her style, personality and talent. Her white shirt is a mixture of elegance and punk with black pieces of simple leather straps tied around the arms of the shirt and a fragment of black harness peaking out of the cut out back (see below). Katarina is a true style chameleon, here I kind of feel a Marylin-esque vibe (oh, she'll hate me for saying this), with vulnerability in the eyes.... however, since the shoot she changed her looks oh so many times, see for yourselves on her blog, here. Enjoy!

Katarína a jej biela košeľa. Ju som na tento blog už párkrát fotila a zrejme to nebolo naposledy :-) Mám veľmi rada jej štýl, osobnosť a talent. Aj jej verziu bielej košele: troška elegantná a troška punk s kúskami čiernej kože omotanými okolo rukávov a čiernym detailom vykúkajúcim z vystrihnutého chrbta (viď nižšie). Katka je čistý chameleón štýlu, tu mi napríklad príde, že má v sebe niečo Marilyn-oidné (za toto ma nebude mať rada :-), so zraniteľnosťou v očiach... od fotenia si však prešla všelijakými premenami, mrknite na jej blogu, aha tu. Nech sa ľúbi!

You have already met my friend Milada on this blog here. Apart from everything I wrote about her (and it is still true, after a few months :-), there is one other very specific thing about her: her ability to include and wear Slovak folk and actually any ethnic pieces with French elegance. Now that is something, trust me. So I was sure (and hoping) that her white shirt will be along those lines. I especially love the white on white layering with simple dark blue jeans, and the little detail of the upward collar, creating a nice shape. Before you ask, the magnificent headpiece is by Hogo Fogo.

Miladu ste mohli na tomto blogu už raz stretnúť, tu aha. Okrem všetkého, čo som o nej písala, je milá Mili špecifická ešte jedným talentom: nosiť Slovenské folklórne a vlastné akékoľvek etno motívy s francúzskou eleganciou. A to je prosím celkom výkon. A tak som si bola istá (a zároveň dúfala), že jej verzia bielej košele bude zrealizovaná tiež týmto smerom. Veľmi sa mi páči vrstvenie bieleho saka (Marcel Holubec) na bielu košeľu a malý detail stojatého goliera, spolu s folklórnym motívom to dodáva šmrnc. Predtým ako sa spýtate, majestátna parta je od Hogo Fogo.

So how do you wear a crisp white shirt when your style is mostly about dark, rich, seducing colours, structures and attitude? I was really looking forward photographing Veronika and her version of the shirt. And it is really about simplicity (yeah, and perfect bone structure :-). Let the patch of white shine through black, heavy pieces like a hooded coat and leather skirt, add some red lips and sneakers and off you go, run this town. And off YOU go to Veronika's blog. Ako by ste nosili nažehlenú bielu košeľu, ak sa váš štýl skladá skôr z tmavých, bohatých, zvodných farieb, materiálov a nálad? Na fotenie s Veronikou a jej košeľou som sa tešila, a odpoveď, ktorá vyplynula: jednoducho :-) Napríklad necháte fragment bielej presvitať cez čierne, ťažšie kúsky ako čierny kabát s kapucňou a koženou sukňou, doplníte červenými perami, žiariacimi teniskami a vyrazíte do sveta, ktorý vám leži pri nohách (najmä keď ich máte až po zem...). A tiež na Veronikin blog. Posledné fotky vznikli v showroome Kabinet. Ďakujeme!

One of the most exciting questions for me in this project was: how could someone, who loves vintage and has a very feminine style, include a basic, contemporary men's shirt from H&M into their wardrobe. So I asked Gabriela to be one of the 13 women, sent her the shirt by post and waited... for the day we had coffee together. What can I say, my coffee was left forgotten and cold, as I was honestly blown away by Gabriela's version. She turned the men's shirt into a dress, with a cut off and decorated collar, one shoulder covered in feathers and pearls (the feathers come from a friends chicken! watch out for the handbag, also covered in the same type of feathers), with buttons changed, and accessories in a beautiful tanned colour added... And not only that, it was obvious she completely made that shirt her own and I think you can see that on the pictures. You can also check out Gabriela's blog here. Have a beautiful Sunday!

Jednou z veľkých otázok v tomto projekte pre mňa bolo, čo by si počala s obyčajnou mužskou košeľou z H&M dáma, kto má rád vintage kúsky a má veľmi ženský, troška až starosvetský štýl. Tak som oslovila Gabrielu, aby bola jednou z 13 žien, poslala jej bielu košeľu poštou a čakala... na deň, keď sme sa stretli na káve. Čo dodať, káva smutno vychladla, pretože som na ňu popri Gabrielinej verzii košele úplne zabudla. Tá použila košeľu ako šaty, pristrihla jej golier a ozdobila ho, jedno rameno pokryla perím a perlami (perie pochádza od kamarátových sliepok! ako aj perie na kabelke nižšie), vymenila gombíky a dodala doplnky v tónoch prírodnej hnedej... A veľká otázka tak bola zodpovedaná: Gabriela košeľu úplne prispôsobila svojmu štýlu, čo si myslím, že vidno aj na fotkách. Ak máte chuť, hoďte očkom na Gabrielin blog, tu aha. Krásnu nedeľu!

Back to the very basics. Because a white shirt IS a very basic piece, Veronika alias Véčko took this road...white shirt, black jeans, black leather jacket, some metal details, that's it. And white, cold fog all around us. I am very thankful Véčko didn't freeze to death that day and was patient with me :-) (well, this was our second location, on the first one I forced her to stand in the middle of rushing people who were all staring at us... well, that's why there are no pictures used from that :-))

Základom je základ. A keďže biela košeľa JE úplný základ, Veronika alias Véčko ju aj tak poňala... biela košeľa, čierne džínsy, čierny krivák a pár kovových detailov, čistá jednoduchosť. A biela, studená hmla okolo nás. Som veľmi vďačná, že Véčko v ten deň nezmrzla a mala so mnou trpezlivosť (toto bolo druhé miesto, kde sme fotili, na tom prvom som ju nútila stáť uprostred a proti prúdu ponáhľajúcich sa ľudí, ktorí po nás zvláštne pokukovali.... takže žiadne fotky z toho "nápadu" :-) tak.)
Oh, a vo veľmi nepravdepodonom prípade, že nepoznáte jej veľmi úspešný a inšpiratívny blog, aha ho tu.

Little brave school girl with a big golden heart. And a look ranging from "Hi, I'm Bambi, save me, please" to "You will obey!" :-) or Radana's version of the white shirt, into which she put a lot of work: she folded the front of it that in the end it matches her skirt so perfectly. I've been in love with Radana and her style for some time now, really, look here and here. Together with her equally stylish and never lost twin Martina, the girls have their own blog, with their own sense of style and humour, check it out here! :-)

Malá odvážna školáčka s veľkým zlatým srdcom. A pohľadom "zachráň ma kto môžeš". A potom utekaaaj :-) alebo Radanina verzia bielej košele - pracne zahnuté a zašité sklady na košeli, ktoré akoby prirodzene prechádzali do štruktúry skladanej sukne. Radanu a jej štýl mám v láske už dlhšie, fakt, aha tu a aha tu. Dievky nájdete aj na ich margarínovo štýlovom, konverzačno-obrázkovom blogu strčprstskrz.

The first time I met Sju, it was at a music festival, here. And then in London, we met next to a brick wall, with her new guitar she is learning to play. As a big fan of men's elements and boyish vibes in the female closet, I truly love her take on the white shirt, with all the rock and roll meets Beatles visual influences. And I also love Sju's rare combination of brains, beauty and a sweet, fun personality. Oh, this week is starting well - enjoy it! :-)

Prvýkrát som Sju stretla na hudobnom festivale, tu. A potom v Londýne, pri tehlovej stene na rohu ulice niekde pri Brick Lane. Ja s foťákom, ona s gitarou, na ktorú sa učí hrať. Ako veľký fanúšik mužských elementov a detailov ženskom šatníku mi jej verzia košele osobne veľmi lahodí, s celým tým rock and roll meets Beatles vizuálnym pocitom. Nedá sa nič robiť, stretnúť krásne a milé ženy, ktorým to páli a majú zmysel pre humor, vždy poteší. Tento týždeň nám začína dobre - užite si ho! :-)

Take two girls, one camera, one tirelessly and precisely holed through shirt, one oh so 80's denim skirt, one old green couch, one random dog running around, one even more random indoor haystack (!), two bare feet and one lovely afternoon. (Honestly, it was sooo hard to pick only these pictures, I couldn't stop shooting Iva, there are not so many gorgeous elves left on this earth anymore :-) Have a beautiful weekend!

Potrebujete dve dievčatá, jeden foťák, jednu neúnavne a dokonale predierkovanú košeľu, jednu neuveriteľne 80's džínovú sukňu, jeden starý zelený gauč, jedného náhodne pobehujúceho psa, ešte náhodnejšiu interiérovú kopu sena (!), dve bosé nohy a milé popoludnie. (Priznávam, vybraťiba tieto fotky bolo takéééééto ťažké, Ivu som nevedala prestať fotiť, veď na svete už nezostalo tak veľa krásnych elfov :-) Krásny víkend prajem!

Jewellery student Maňa and her white shirt, in the middle of her "hunter's phase"... love the long plaid skirt, gloves, vintage family heirloom around the neck. I think she is just gorgeous in a very unsual way, the same thing I though the moment we met at Pohoda festival and knew I would love to eventually photograph her one day. While doing so I had this constant feeling that I am looking at a girl from a painting, out of this world and only by coincidence in the middle of Pisztoryho palace... (thanks to Bratislava Old Town for allowing us to photograph there!)

Študentka šperku Maňa a biela košeľa, uprosted jej "poľovníckej fázy"... nádherná kombinácia s dlhou károvanou sukňou, rukavicami, vintage dedičstvom okolo ramien. Už keď sme sa prvýkrát stretli na Pohode, vedela som, že by som ju a jej zasnenú krásu zasa raz rada fotila. A popri fotení som potom mala neustále pocit, že sa pozerám na dievča z obrazu, z iného sveta, len náhodou zjavené uprosted Pisztoryho paláca... (ďakujeme Starému mestu za možnosť tam fotiť!)

And I watched in silent amazement her feminine military take on a basic white shirt (originally with white plastic buttons). Ako najlepšie ukázať a dokázať, že naozaj človek robí šaty?
Nechať 13 úžasných žien obliecť si obyčajnú, bielu pánsku košelu. Nechať ich hrať sa, strihať, zdobiť, skladať, krčiť, žehliť, tešiť sa. Iba si ju obliecť a preniesť tak na ňu svoj štýl, osobnosť a čaro. A len ich pri tom pozorovať. Nech sa ľúbi!

Nina. Prvýkrát som ju stretla náhodou na ulici, tu. Jej štýl a zmysel pre krásno, ktoré do svojho okolia prirodzene vyžaruje, som si okamžite zamilovala. A s tichým úžasom som sledovala ženský military štýl, ktorý vyčarovala z obyčajnej bielej košele (s pôvodne bielymi plastovými gombíkmi). So there was this December opening of my "Man makes the clothes" exhibition in Cvernovka in Bratislava and guess what, it was amazing! I know, I was in shock too :-) And excited, tired and happy at the same time. Honestly, I felt so touched by all the people who came out on a rainy Wednesday, patiently listened to my emotional mumbling in the beginning and then enjoyed themselves, talked, walked and took pictures (you can watch the whole gallery on my Facebook, here).
I want to say Thanks a bunch! to Nicosia from Galleria Cvernovka for being the heart of this exhibition, Miracle production for helping out with the production and printing, dear Mili for the catering, Vladisko for being The DJ, Jonáš for his graphics and patience, Lula for being there for me, my guy for being himself :-) and Káťa from H&M for providing the 13 white shirts for the "1 shirt, 13 women" series....

A tak tu bola decembrová vernisáž výstavy "Človek robí šaty" v bratislavskej Cvernovke a neuveríte, bolo to ne-u-ve-ri-teľ-né! Ja viem, tiež som bola v šoku :-) A vystresovaná, unavená a šťastná naraz. A dojatá všetkými ľuďmi, ktorý si v upršanú stredu večer našli chvíľu, trpezlivo si vypočuli moje emocionálne preskakovanie hlasu na začiatku a potom sa cítili dobre, rozprávali sa, prechádzali, fotili (celú fotogalériu z vernisáže nájdete na Facebooku tu aha).
Chcem povedať nadrozmerné Ďakujem! Nicosii z Gallerie Cvernovka za to, že bola srdcom tejto výstavy, Miracle production za veľkú pomoc pri tlači a logistickom zabezpečení, drahej Mili za catering, Vladiskovi za to, že je Pán DJ, Jonášovi za grafiku a trpezlivosť so mnou, Lule za to, že v tom so mnou bola, chlapovi môjmu za to, že bol sám sebou :-) a Káti z H&M za 13 bielych pánskych košelí pre projekt "1 košeľa, 13 žien"....

About three years ago we were on a short visit of my guy's grandparents in the small town of Svit (grandma and grandpa are both over 85, charming, witty and with lots of energy, may it last them very long! :-). Shortly before we arrived, behind one of their wardrobes they found their long lost, about 60 years old wedding photo, taken around the end of 1940's.
You may ask, and rightfully so, what does this have to do with the joy of welcoming a new year on this blog (apart from the vintage photo :-) Well, looking at this picture brings a smile to my face and gives me hope that no matter what years and numbers may come and what they may bring, it is always up to us, our love, passion, honesty and kindness of what we make out of them. I thank you for sharing an amazing, sky rocketing 2011 with me, and wish you a happy 2012 full of the best of what we make out of it! Love,

Asi pred tromi rokmi sme s chlapom mojím boli na víkendovej návšteve jeho starkých v mestečku Svit (starká a starký majú obidvaja nad 85, obaja sú šarmatní, vtipní a plní životnej energie, nech im to vydrží čo najdlhšie! :-). Krátko pred naším príchodom sa im znenazdajky za jednou skriňou podarilo nájsť časom zapadnutú, asi 60-ročnú svadobnú fotku, ktorá vznikla koncom 40-tych rokov.
Ak sa pýtate, (a právom teda :-), čo má toto spoločné s vítaním nového roka na tomto blogu (teda okrem tej staručkej vintage fotografie), myslím, že to je o radosti a nádeji. Tá fotka mi vyvoláva úsmev na tvári a dáva mi nádej, že je jedno, aký rok príde a čo prinesie, je vždy na nás, na našej ľudskej energii, vášni, úprimnosti a láskavosti, čo s tým rokom urobíme. A tak vám ďakujem za neuveriteľný, ustrelený rok 2011 a prajem vám šťastný nový rok 2012 plný toho najlepšieho, čo si v ňom vytvoríme. Ruka hore, noha v torte! Tak :-)

Sunglasses with red. And blond. Tel Aviv Fashion Week

Even if you held a pink toy gun to my head I couldn't tell who the colour red suits better: the blonds or the brunettes (see post below). In this case this outfit has it all: red for colour, print for exotic, ruffles on the trousers for cute and feminine, haircut for boyish, buttoned up collar for preppy, Chanel loafers for high style, nude sunglasses for quirky, and thumbs up for putting it all together with style. Anyway, this is how they do it in Finnland :-)

Aj keby ste mi hrozili ružovou vodnou pištolou pri hlave, by som sa nevedela rozhodnúť komu sa červená farba hodí viac: blondýnkam či brunetkám (viď post nižšie). Každopádne, tento outfit má všetko: červenú pre farbičky, vzor pre exotiku, volániky na spodku nohavíc pre dievčenskú milosť, zostrih pre chlapčenskú drzosť, zapnutý golierik pre slušnosť, Chanel botky pre štýl, telové slnečné okuliare pre zaujímavosť a palce hore pre schopnosť to zmixovať. Tak takto sa to robí vo Fínsku :-)

I think the title says it all really :-) Red and black is a bit tricky combination to me, it can be done wrong in so many ways.... Here the combination seems more like an extension of their owner's personality, more than just clothes, don't you think? Definitely loving the combo with the sunglasses! Have a great Friday!

Slnečné okuliare a červená. A čierna. Myslím, že názov článku to zhrnul úplne :-) A pritom červená a čierna je pre mňa "tricky" kombinácia, keď si spomeniem koľkokrát som ju už videla namiešanú úplne zle... Tu však tá kombinácia pôsobí skôr ako odraz osobnosti majiteľky, než ako iba kusy oblečenia, nezdá sa vám? A to párovanie so slnečnými okuliarmi! Krásny piatok!

Sasson Kedem, Tel Aviv Fashion Week

One of my favorite show was the very highly regarded Sasson Kedem and his more architecture than fashion. The show was dedicated to Sasson's late father and the inspiration with the Egyptian roots was clear with the dotted see through leggins and black flat sandals. It was dreamy, very feminine, but down to earth at the same time, with sharp lines.

Jedna z mojich top prehliadok bol veľmi populárny Sasson Kedem a jeho viac architektúra šiat ako móda. Prehliadka bola venovaná Sassonovmu otcovi a inšpirácia egyptskými koreňmi bola jasne citeľná aj v priehľadných legínach a jednoduchých čiernych sandáloch. Celkový dojem bol snový a veľmi ženský, ale zároveň aj veľmi uchopiteľný, so silnými líniami.

A quick observation: the fashion shows at Tel Aviv Fashion Week were heavily attended by fans of the designer showing, with rounds of clapping, cheering on and often standing ovations at the end - just generally an atmosphere of happiness and pride of the work of designer. It was also shown off by wearing the designers' clothes to the show. Like this lovely lady all in Sasson Kedem. Love the over the top necklace and whole black and grey mood!

Postreh z Tel Aviv Fashion Weeku - jednotlivé prehliadky boli okrem novinárov a ľudí z branže najviac zaplnené fanúšikmi konkrétneho návrhára a často prerušované radostným potleskom, na konci až výkrikmi a standing ovation... celkovo vládla atmosféra radosti a hrdosti na prácu svojich návrhárov. Vidieť to bolo aj na účastníkoch prehliadky: dámy mali často komplet outfity toho-ktorého návrhára, ako napríklad táto dáma celá v značke Sasson Kedem. Mne sa páči odvážny meganáhrdelník aj celková čierno-šedá kombinácia!

A white (Christmas) Story

When in London and want to feel like you're close to heaven (interior and food wise, please), visit Story Deli. The seemingly random pieces put together make a very carefully decorated and compact visual place, I especially love all the white light and natural materials and worn in feeling of the whole place. Yes, close to heaven :-) And they have big tables where all the people sit together, a nice touch in these crazy times.... Dears, I wish you a very happy, white and peaceful Christmas, and I wish to all of us to be able to sit together with all our loved ones. Love ya! :-)

Ak ste v Londýne a chcete sa cítiť o kúsok bližšie k raju (interiérovo a gurmánsky, poprosím), navštívte Story Deli. Na pohľad náhodne poskladané kúsky tvoria kompaktný a veľmi pozorne dekorovaný interiér. Mne špeciálne ulahodila biela farba, svetlo, prírodné materiály a taký troška "obnosený" pocit celého miesta, ktoré si už zažilo svoje. Tak, kúsok od raja :-) A navyše majú veľké, masívne stoly, za ktorými sedia hostia spolu, zaujímavý detail v týchto zvláštnych časoch... Drahí moji, prajem vám veľmi šťastné, krásne biele a pokojné sviatočné dni, a nám všetkým, aby sme si mohli za jedným stolom posedieť so všetkými, ktorých máme radi. Ja mám rada vás, ha! :-)

The future hat maker, London

What would you say is a good place to learn the art of millinery? My bet would be London, with the tradition of hat makers and hat wearing. Well, apparently, the hat wearing part is more limited to movies, as I learned from Petra, originally from Czech republic, who I met in London and who's been living there and learning how to make hats. Partly studied (a course at St. Martin's), partly experienced (at a millinery business) and partly self-taught (with a collection of books and materials to experiment with), Petra has big dreams. Right now she is mostly creating the so-called "fascinators" (a decorative head piece, like the one she's wearing in the first picture) and I am keeping my fingers crossed for this young lady! Čo by ste povedali, že je dobré miesto na priučenie sa klobučníckemu remeslu? Ja by som tipla Londýn, so svojou tradíciou majstrov klobučníkov a nosenia klobúkov. S tým nosením to v realite až také horúce vraj nebude, je to viac filmový motív, ako som sa dozvedela od Petry, pôvodom z Českej republiky, ktorú som stretla v Londýne a ktorá tam žije a učí sa robiť klobúky. Čiastočne učením sa (kurzom na St. Martin's), skúsenosťami (praxou v klobučníckej firme) a čiastočne samoštúdiom (a krásnou kolekciou knižiek a materiálov na experimentovanie), Petra má veľké sny. Momentálne najviac tvorí tzv. "fascinátory" (dekoratívne klobúčiko-čelenky, jeden taký má aj na prvom obrázku) a ja tejto mladej dáme držím palce! Izraeli stylist and photographer Tamar showed up in this amazing mix of pink leopard print, snakeskin, studs and wool jacket, and never thought blue, pink and brown would go together so well.... A mix just as charming as her :-)

Izraelská stylistka a fotografka Tamar sa prvý deň Fashion Weeku zjavila v tomto neuveriteľnom mixe ružového leoparda, pytóna, vleného sáčka a vybíjanej kabelky, a mne nikdy predtým nenapadlo, že modrá, ružová a hnedá sú tak dobre kombinovateľné dokopy.... Výsledok bol šarmantný ako ona sama :-)

Bicycle stories: Lula

Simple is beautiful. What I love most about this Bicycle story is the fact that my friend Lula here was fully in charge of this bike's renovation. Bought at a flea market, she took it all apart, scrubbed and cleaned the little parts, bought some new ones (like tires and breaks), found a workshop in a little village where they painted it with her chosen red colour and a shop where they put this beauty back together. The wooden box on the bikes is a heritage from her grandfather....
This alone sounds extremely exhausting to me, but to her it was like therapy. Lula is extremely good at hand crafts (we did some interior design projects together, a therapy for both of us :-) and recently started to sew and design the cutest stuffed animals for kids under her label Haraburdart (you could see them at the recent Winter Urban Market in Bratislava). Moral of this story: when looking for something to do in your life, look back at what you loved when you were 12. Not a bad starting point. Haraburdart started from there. Have a great week, dears!

V jednoduchosti je krása. A tak čo ma berie najviac na príbehu tohto bicykla je fakt, že moja kamarátka Lula si ho určitým spôsobom dala dokopy sama. Kúpila ho na blšáku, celý rozobrala, súčiastky vyčistila a vyleštila, pár nových kúpila (ako plášte a brzdy), na jednom hospodárskom družstve našla dieľňu, kde jej ho nastriekali autolakom na vybranú červenú, a servis, kde jej zreparovaného fešáka dali celého dokopy. Bednička je zdedená po dedovi.
A kým mne celý tento proces príde skôr ako vyčerpávajúci kolotoč, pre ňu to bola terapia. Lula je totiž exrémne zručná (spolu sme robili pár interiérových projektov, čo bola terapia pre nás obe :-) a nedávno začala pod značkou Haraburdart šiť a vymýšľať detské hračky (mohli ste ich vidieť napríklad na nedávnom Winter Urban Markete). Ponaučenie z tohto príbehu: ak hľadáte v živote to, čo by vás bavilo, vráťte sa k tomu, čo vás bavilo, keď ste mali 12. Viac na stránke Haraburdart, tu aha. Prajem krásny týždeň, drahí!

Orange Fashion 2011: Hana Převrátilová & Boris Hanečka

It was "double the talent, double the show" time when Hana Převrátilová and Boris Hanečka's collaborating collection took over the catwalk. The visibly high quality materials were flowing, models floating like butterflies, the audience holding their breath. Most impressive were the huge sculpted skirts, subdued colours and countless decorative details, truly a grand finale to the Orange Fashion 2011 night. Have a wonderful end of the week!

Na záver prevzala mólo dvojica Hana Převrátilová a Boris Hanečka so spoločnou kolekciou. Dvojitá dávka talentu bola citeľná: viditeľne luxusné látky šuchotali, modelky sa vznášali ako motýle a diváci zatajovali dych. Najväčší dojem zanechali tvarované megasukne, tlmené farby a nespočetné množstvo prepracovaných detailov a aplikácií, Orange Fashion 2011 malo naozaj veľké finále, ta-dáám! Krásny skoro koniec týždňa prajem!

Orange Fashion 2011: Denisa Nová

And then there was Denisa Nová. I loved how the Czech guest designer made a visual statement breaking all the expectations of what ball gowns should be like, staying true to her structured, minimalistic style while looking for the elements of woman in a men's shirt (a theme close to my heart right now, coming very soon :-). I would say it is really important to be confronted with ideas and visuals that break all rules and expectations, resulting in a chilling stage presentations. Definitely one of the night's highlights!

A zrazu tam bola Denisa Nová. Hosťujúca česká návrhárka vyrazila dych vizualitou svojej prehliadky a prelomila všetky očakávania toho, ako by mali plesové šaty vyzerať - a to všetko v jej štrukturovanom, minimalistickom štýle, čiernej farbe, a s hľadaním ženských elementov v mužskej košeli (téma, ktorá mi je momentálne blízka, a už čoskoro :-). Myslím si, že bolo a je zaujímavé a dôležité, ako nápady a vizuálno konfrontovali predstavy a pravidlá hry, výsledkom čoho boli - u mňa - zimomriavky. Určite jeden z top momentov večera.

Orange Fashion 2011: Jana Gavalcová

Jana Gavalcová's ball gown collection was a very compact, goddess-like series of dresses consisting of hand decorated bustiers or skin tight tops and simple, long, gorgeously flowing skirts, mostly in gentle powder and nude. A beautiful choice for classical beauty. Loved the hair and the chello player on the catwalk!

Kolekcia plesových šiat Jany Gavalcovej bola veľmi kompaktnou sériou šiat s ručne dekorovanými korzetmi alebo priliehavým vrškom a dlhými, krásne lietajúcimi sukňami, ako pre bohyne, prevažne v jemných telových a púdrových tónoch. Jednoznačná voľba pre klasickú krásu. A nadýchané vlasy a čelistka na móle boli famózne!

Orange Fashion 2011: Lenka Sršňová

Not being your typical ball gown designer, I was curious to see Lenka Sršňová's take on the theme, and guess what, she did go all out, big style: the catwalk was filled with fairy tale princesses with big skirts, big bows, big hearts, big smiles. In Lenka's world balls are like a happy place from Alice in Wonderland (who was splendid by the way), that put a smile on everyone's face. Now only find the daring woman who will take them into the real life, ha! :-) On a side note: loved the hair and make-up!

Keďže Lenka Sršňová nie je úplne tou návrhárkou, ktorej meno vám napadne pri téme plesových šiat, bola som zvedavá na jej poňatie témy, a ta-dáám, ona to vybalila vo veľkom: rozprávkové princezné s veľkými sukňami, mašľami, srdcami, úsmevmi. V Lenkinom svete sú plesy rozprávkové ako z krajiny zázrakov (jej Alica bola skvelá), teraz už len nech sa nájde tá odvážna dáma, ktorá tieto modely s gráciou prenesie do reálneho sveta, ha! :-) A na okraj: vlasy a make-up boli rovnako rozprávkové!

Orange Fashion 2011: Marcel Holubec

6 designers showing 5 collections of ball gowns, with each one bearing the trademark and magic of its designer. The very clever line-up of designers made for a colourful impression which included everything from strict minimalism to dramatic maximalism. Held in the workshop of the Slovak National Theater (I had no idea such a place existed), opening the show was Marcel Holubec. Marcel keeps evolving the theme of doves that he started here and here. Fluffy and feathery white and organically shaped black, feminine shapes and materials combined with male moments, plus metallic accessories by jeweller Lucia Babjaková spelled its magic on me. Marcel was the only one having a male model on the catwalk, a fact that excited happy cheering on from the audience :-) Adding a few backstage moments and wishing you a wonderful Tuesday!

6 návrhárov a 5 kolekcií plesových šiat, z ktorej každá niesla v sebe svoju mágiu a pečať svojho tvorcu. Šikovný výber návrhárov vytvoril veľmi pestrý celkový dojem - od striktného minimalizmu po nadýchaný maximalizmus sa na móle vystriedalo všetko. Veľmi profesionálne, veľkolepo, ale stále veľmi sympaticky poňatú akciu Orange Fashion v priestoroch Umelecko-dekoračných dielní Slovenského národného divadla (dovtedy som netušila, že taký priestor vôbec existuje!) otvorila kolekcia Marcela Holubca. Marcel v nej rozvinul motív holubice, ktorý načal už tu a tu. Nadýchaná biela a krásne tvarovaná čierna, výsostne ženské tvary a materiál v kombinácii s pánskymi momentami, plus kovové doplnky šperkárky Lucie Babajkovej na mňa pôsobili čarovne. Marcel ako jediný pustil na mólo pánsky model, a už tento samotný fakt zožal v publiku radostný ohlas :-) Prikladám pár detailov zo zákulisia, pekný utorok prajem!

Rose, Tel Aviv Fashion Week

This year's Tel Aviv Fashion Week was the first after about 30 years. While I was photographing Rose in between shows, she told me she was a model at the very last Fashion Week in the 1980's. After that she has been working in the industry and this year she was happy to see the tradition come alive again - this time from the front rows. And the story comes full circle :-) Have a beautiful weekend!

Tohtoročný Tel Aviv Fashion Week bol prvým po asi 30 rokoch. Keď som medzi prehliadkami fotila Rose, tá mi prezradila, že na poslednom Fashion Weeku v 80-tych rokoch robila modelku. Medzitým pracovala s ľuďmi z branže a tento rok sa z oživenia tradície Fashion Weeku tešila v hľadisku. Krásne uzavretie kruhu. Pekný víkend prajem! :-)

Výborný umelecký a hodnotný počin: kúpou niekorého z týchto tričiek prispievate na dobrú vec a zároveň získate kúsok súčasného slovenského umenia!

Invitation: Man Makes The Clothes

It is my pleasure, adrenalin and sleepless nights to invite you to my (ever ever ever!) first photo exhibition (crazy, I know, but I am sooo happy I am going to burst! thanks to Nico) and its opening, under the title Man Makes The Clothes.
It consists of two series of photograps: the first ones are black and white pictures taken in the backstage of the Magda Marnell show last year in Prague (thanks to Yasmin from Minty for inviting me back then!), the other one is a series called "1 shirt, 13 women" in which I gave (with the help of H&M showroom. thank you!) 13 inspiring women the same white men's shirt and asked them to wear it any way they liked. The result of this experiment is a series of 13 fashion portraits proving that it is really the wo/man who makes the clothes, not the other way round. Je mi potešením, adrenalínom a bezsennými nocami pozvať vás na moju (úplne, úplne najviac!) prvú výstavu fotografií (samej sa mi to nechce veriť a idem prasknúť od šťastia! za čo ďakujem Nico) a vernisáž pod názvom Človek robí šaty.
Výstava pozostáva z dvoch cyklov fotografií: prvá séria sú čiernobiele fotografie z backstage prehliadky Magdy Marnell v Prahe spred asi roka (ďakujem Yasmin z Minty, že ma vtedy pozvala!), a druhá je súbor pod názvom "1 košeľa, 13 žien", v ktorom som 13 inšpiratívnym ženám dala (s pomocou H&M showroomu, ďakujem!) tú istú bielu pánsku košeľu a poprosila ich, aby ju zapracovali do svojho štýlu. Výsledkom tohto experimentu je séria 13 fashion portrétov, ktoré dokazujú, že naozaj Človek robí šaty a nie naopak. Týmto vás srdečne pozývam zastaviť sa, hádam bude sranda! :-) Vidíme sa v stredu! Persy, Tel Aviv Fashion Week

Picking my favorite moments from the shows I saw and found interesting. Kicking off the Fashion Week was Yaniv Persy, born in Israel, raised in South America, but graduated from Shenkar College in Tel Aviv, living in Paris. Worked with some of fashion's big names (Donna Karan, Lanvin, John Galliano, Apostrophe brand), before establishing his own label, Persy, in 2009. My joy in this show: let me call it sophisticated rock - long frocks, sharply cut vests, strong shoulders... I can soo imagine myself wearing this :-)

V niekolkých ďalších postoch pre vás vyberiem momenty a inšpiráciu z prehliadok, ktoré som v Tel Avive videla a prišli mi zaujímavé. Fashion Week otváral návrhárYaniv Persy, ktorý sa narodil v Izraeli, vyrastal v Južnej Amerike, ale vyštudoval Shenkar Collage v Tel Avive, a žije v Paríži. Po tom, ako pracoval pre veľké mená vo svete módy (Donna Karan, Lanvin, John Galliano, značka Apostrophe), si v roku 2009 založil vlastnú značku Persy. Mňa zaujali dlhé sukne s ostro strihanými vestami a silné ramená - taký sofistikovaný rock - úúúplne v tom seba vidím :-)

Advanced style, Tel Aviv Fashion Week

Borrowing the title of a recently favorite blog of mine, one of my main observation from Tel Aviv Fashion Week is: it is the older ladies (and their sunglasses) who rock! (Okay, second from the top is actually Catherine Rousso from ELLE France, but she kind of nicely fits into here). My main point is: I have never seen so many interesting, stylish ladies in one place like in Tel Aviv, and as I will show you later, no, it wasn't only about the Fashion Week crowd.

Jedno zásadné pozorovanie z Tel Aviv Fashion Weeku: staršie dámy (a ich slnečné okuliare) udávajú štýl! (V poriadku, druhá zhora je vlastne Catherine Rousso z francúzskeho vydanie ELLE, ale hodí sa sem tak či tak). Čo sa snažím povedať: ešte nikde som nevidela také množstvo zaujímavých, štýlových starších dám pokope ako v Tel Avive. A ako vám neskôr ukážem, nie, nešlo iba o dámy počas Fashion Weekendu.

Dress for a muse

As in every creative process, in the beginning there are ideas and plans, that grow, change or simply die. These were for a special evening and a special dress created for Adela Banášová by Marcel Holubec, as mentioned a little below. And here an exclusive view into what might have been :-)

Na začiatku každého tvorivého procesu sú nápady a plány, ktoré sa potom rozvíjajú, menia alebo jednoducho zomrú. Tieto vznikali pre moderátorku odovzdávania Cien Nadácie Tatra banky za umenie, Adelu, a pod rukami Marcela Holubca. A tu exkluzívny pohľad do zákulisia na priebeh a nápady, ktoré sa skoro zrealizovali :-)

Then there's the creation process, with fittings, cuttings, pulling, sewing, watching from the front, the back, in the mirror (supervised by Marcel and Zdenka).

Ako ďalší nastúpil proces skúšania, strihania, pasovania, šitia, sledovania v zrkladle spredu aj zozadu (pod dohľadom Marcela a Zdenky).

Somewhere in the middle of it all, Adela matched the Mikyta headband with Uncle Karl's version of a Coca Cola bottle. It was only a few steps into finishing the dress...

A niekde uprostred skúšania Adela takto zladila čelenku od Mikyty s Karlovou verziou fľaše Coca Coly. Bolo to už len pár krokov od dokončenia šiat...

Hello dears, sorry for the lack of posting, sending you a big Hello from Tel Aviv Fashion Week! :-) Crazy, I know! I would like to thank the organizers for bringing out international media and bloggers adn the Izraeli embassy in Slovakia! It is crazy and busy and fabulous! Trying to photograph and see as much as I can! Can't stop writing exclamation marks! Stop! :-)

Preview: Dress for a muse

Three stages of making of a dress specially for tonight and for a muse.
The occassion is the Awards show in which the Fund of Tatra banka honors selected Slovak artists for their work in the fields of theater, music, literature, fine arts and audiovisual arts. The muse is the lady host of the show, Adela Banášová. Since last year a young fashion designer is supported by the Fund of Tatra banka, by making this special dress which then stays with the Fund, gradually creating a collection of unique designer dresses. Maybe you remember last year's dress (this post and this post), this year the selected designer was Marcel Holubec. If you want to see the final dress tonight, plus a beautiful evening full of wonderful performances and moments, I recommend the live stream here. I'll be waving :-)

Tri štádiá tvorby jedným šiat špeciálne na dnes večer a pre múzu.
Príležitosťou je odovzdanie cien Nadácie Tatra banky za umenie v rôznych disciplínach: audiovizuálnej, divadelnej, hudobnej, literárnej a výtvarnej. Múza je moderátorka večera, Adela Banášová. Od minulého roka je Nadáciou podporený aj mladý módny návrhár, ktorý vytvorí šaty na večer odovzdávania cien. Možno si pamätáte minuločné šaty (aha tu a aha tu), tento rok bol módnym tvorcom Marcel Holubec. Vytvorené šaty už čoskoro tu, ak si ich chcete pozrieť v predsihu a najmä si dopriať zážitok s nádherného večera a vystúpenia umelcov, odporúčam live stream tu. Budem vám mávať, ha! :-)

Bicycle stories: Juraj

Believe it or not, I have met Juraj for the first time randomly on the street about a year ago, here. True story.
A year after, we met again, this time plus a bike. THE bike. Sleek, simple, black, beautiful, a gift from a group of friends. Well, to be exact, for his birthday Juraj got a bicycle bell, with friend's signatures on it. And with money in it to get the bike he always wanted. Made in Slowatch, it has a timeless black and chrome colour code with brown leather accessories. To make it easier to pedal up the hill to work, he got a vintage looking, but hi-tech 5 speed switching gear with a simple handle bar.
If you have a feeling, you might have met Juraj and his bike somewhere, it was probably while he was cruising around Grape festival, as one of the organizers. Today you can listen to him here. Have a lovely Thursday!

Verte či nie, prvýkrát som Juraja stretli na ulici čistou náhodou asi tak presne pred rokom, tu. Vážne.
Rok PO sme sa stretli zas, tentokrát bol pri tom aj jeho bicykel. Pán bicykel. Elegantný čierny švihák, darček od partie kamarátov. Teda, presnejšie povedané, Juraj dostal na narodeniny zvonček na bicykel s podpismi kamarátov, a vo zvončeku peniaze (aké zo života :-) na vysnený bicykel. Ten je made in Slowatch, a podľa Jurajovho priania v čierno-chrómovom farebnom prevedení s hnedými doplnkami. Krásna klasika. Technickou vychytávkou je prevod: kvôli zdolávaniu kopca do roboty dostal bicykel 5-rýchlostný náboj vo vintage prevedení a s jednoduchou páčkou riadenia.
Ak máte pocit, že ste Juraja a jeho bike už niekde stretli, mohlo to byť na festivale Grape, ktorého je spoluorganizátorom a ktorého areál brázdil práve na tomto bicykli. Dnes is ho môžete vypočuť tu. Krásny štvrtok prajem!

Story of a coat, Paris streetstyle

Someone told me a story of two designer students, friends. They were both equally talented and smart. After school one ended up working for a designer brand, creating new lines and pieces for shows. The other ended up working for a big retail brand, creating pieces that were supposed to be copying the trends the first one has created. I would love to be at that table when the two meet for coffee :-)

Niekto mi hovoril príbeh dvoch študentov módneho návrhárstva. Nepamätám si mená, ani či to boli ženy alebo muži, zjednodušme to na ženy. Obidve boli rovnako talentované a šikovné. Po škole jedna z nich začala pracovať pre návrhársku značku, kde vytvárala nové kolekcie na prehliadky. Druhá začala pracovať pre veľkú obchodnú značku oblečenia, a mala navrhovať kúsky, ktoré kopírovali trendy a návrhy tej prvej. Chcela by som byť pri tom stole, keď sa tieto dve stretli na kafe :-)

When I graduated from high school, as a present my mum gave me an intensive French language course (yeah, because that's just what you need after boiling your brain with studying for your closing exams.... still love you, mum! :-).
Since that course I forgot a lot of French, but I remembered one other student - a very elegant, at the same time extravagant and charming red-headed gentleman. Years and years later, about this spring, I was talking to Mária Štraneková about stylish Slovak men to shoot and a wonderfully simultaneous thing happened: I came up with the memory of this gentleman and she came up with the name Karol Pichler. Some time later during one of Mr. Pichler's trips to Bratislava we were introduced and half a year later we went for coffee.
I felt really humbled by the time spent together - Mr. Pichler is a Slovak visual artist living in Rio de Janeiro, a stage designer (among many he did the set design for YSL's exhibition in Rio), fashion designer and last but not least eat-art master (pst, if you look for him on Facebook, you can see his eat-art albums - and that's just what he does for fun!). We talked about his studies of painting and tapestry in Budapest, teaching fashion design students in Bratislava, his passion for jackets, his collection of ties (the one here is his own design! it's built from stripes of leather and plastic splints that normally connect the price tag to a garment), his art, his love of food, traveling and life, as well as his up and coming collection of fashion pieces (the ties are already sold at the Museum of modern art in Rio, well Hello!). Kedysi pradávno som od mojej maminy ako darček k maturitám dostala intenzívny kurz francúzštiny (lebo to je presne to, čo po učení sa na maturitu potrebujete, ehm.... mami, ľúbim ťa!).
Odvtedy som síce veľa z tej francúzštiny zabudla, výrazne mi však v pamäti utkvel jeden "spoluštudujúci": elegantný a zároveň svojsky extravagantný, šarmantný ryšavý pán. Po nespočetných rokoch, asi túto jar, sme sa s Máriou Štranekovou rozprávali o štýlových slovenských mužoch, ktorých by stálo za to odfotiť, a stala sa krásne simultánna vec: ja som si spomenula na ryšavého študenta z francúzštiny a ona povedala meno Karol Pichler. Pár mesiacov na to, počas jeho návštevy Bratislavy, sme sa s Mr. Pichlerom zoznámili, a ďalších pár mesiacov na to išli na kávu.
Za tú chvíľu s ním som naozaj vďačná: slovenský vizuálny umelec žijúci v Rio de Janeiro, scénograf (medzi inými tvoril scénografiu veľkej YSL výstavy v Riu), odevný dizajnér, tvorič nápadov a v neposlednom rade eat-art umelec (pst! ak ho vyhľadáte na Facebooku, uvidíte jeho eat-artové albumy, ktoré dokumentujú jeho tvorbu gastronomického umenia. A to robí len tak pre zábavu! Dovidopo!) Rozprávali sme sa o jeho štúdiu maľby a tapisérie v Budapešti, o tom ako v 80-tych rokov učil študentov odevného dizajnu v Bratislave, o jeho vášni pre saká, jeho zbierke kravát (tá na obrázkoch je jeho vlastný návrh! vystavaná z kožených páskov a plastových splintov, na ktorých obyčajne visí cenovka oblečenia), o umení, o láske k vareniu, cestovaniu a k životu. A o čoskoro hotovej vlastnej kolekcii odevov (kravaty z ktorej už predáva napríklad Múzeum moderného umenia v Riu, že haló!). Aj keď momentálne je jeho web stránka vo výstavbe, ja pevne dúfam, že ak všetko vyjde ako by mohlo, s Mr. Pichlerom sa na tomto blogu ešte stretnete. Krásnu stredu prajem!

Versace for H&M

There was definitely something in the air (or drinks) that night.Versace for H&M presentation thus turned out to be an unexpectedly funny (and thankfully often blurry!) evening. Let's leave it at that :-)

Moje top momenty z novej Versace for H&M kolekcie (foto vyššie): jednoduché čierne kúsky so zlatým vybíjaním alebo gombíkmi. A čierne obliečky s farebnými kvetinovými vzormi (tu použité ako závesy, ha!)
V ten večer bolo niečo vo vduchu (alebo nápojoch). Prezentácia Versace for H&M sa tak nečakane zmenila na zábavný (a chvalabohu často rozmazaný) večer. Tak :-)

Bicycle stories: Dominika

When Dominika's boyfriend was looking for his future bike, he involved Dominika in the process and kept asking about her opinion, what she likes and thinks and prefers... only to get her this cream and leather piece of beauty as a graduation and birthday surprise gift. Awwww.... Dominika says it's exactly her dreambike, elegant and timeless, one that she can ride today and in 10 years time (and it's actually pretty close to my dream bike, ehm, hint, hint... :-).
Anyway, from the technical point of view, it is a second hand bike that has been upgraded by Slowatch and given everything new: paint and pieces that were meant to look like authentic parts of the original. Especially stylish is the brown leather seat by the legendary Brooks company, with matching brown, cream and silver details. When having such a simple, neutral and classy bike, it seem also really practical: it just matches everything in your wardrobe! You can check out Dominika's here. Have a beautiful Friday, dears!

Keď si Dominikin priateľ robil predstavu o svojom budúcom bicykli, zatiahol do tohto procesu aj Dominiku, aby mu poradila, pomohla... a on z nej okľukou a nenápadko vytiahol, aký bicykel by sa vlastne páčil jej. A potom ta-dám, túto krémovo-koženú nádheru dostala ako darček pri príležitosti promócií a narodenín. A je to vraj jej vysnený bike, elegantný a nadčasový, ktorý sa jej hodí dnes a bude sa aj o 10 rokov (a je ináč celkom podobný tomu môjmu vysnenému, ehm, ehm.... :-).

Každopádne, technicky ide o bicykel z druhej ruky, ktorý bol vylepšený šikovnými rukami v Slowatch - a tak dostal všetko nové: od laku až po funkčné aj štýlové doplnky, ktoré však vyzerajú, akoby na ňom boli odjakživa. Fajnotkou je hnedé kožené sedadlo od legendárnej firmy Brooks, ku ktorému sú doladené ostatné hnedo-krémovo-strieborné detaily. S takýmto krásne jednoduchým a neutrálnym bicyklom ste to podľa mňa vyhrali aj po tej praktickej stránke: hodí sa ku všetkému v skrini! Do tej Dominikinej môžete nazrieť tu. Lost and found

Just recently I wrote about how I love to listen to people's dreams coming true. I had the same feeling while talking to Milosh Harajda, the young man partly responsible for bringing David LaChapelle's work to Bratislava, co-working on it with Pavleye Art and Culture, while Milosh was the moving and emotional force behind the project. David's balancing on the verge of popculture, art and religion has always resonated with him. And even though my personal photography aesthetics lie somewhere else, I was honestly impressed by LaChapelle's execution of the photographs (his sets are real and live, not 3D, a little miracle in this age of post-processing...), the mystery of things and events happening or changing in a way he photographed them (true story :-) and his personal views on this world, on photography, art, love and life, that I was lucky enough to listen to recently.
Whether you love or hate LaChapelle's work, fact is that having his exhibition in Bratislava is a great thing (just ask the people at the GMB gallery, the place is crowded like a shopping mall all the time... how fitting :-) The exhibition is extended till the 15th of November, last day up to 8 p.m. More information here. Nedávno som písala o tom, ako mám rada príbehy ľudí, ktorí si plnia sny. Podobné pocity som mala aj pri rozhovore s Miloshom Harajdom, mladým mužom spoluzodpovedným za výstavu Davida LaChapelle v Bratislave, ktorú zastrešila agentúra Pavleye Art and Culture. Emocionálnou a ľudskou hybnou silou projektu bol však práve Milosh. Davidove balansovanie na rozhraniach popkultúry, umenia a náboženstva mu bolo vždy blízke. A aj keď moja osobná estetika fotografie je troška iná, fascinuje ma remeselnosť exekúcie LaChapellových fotografií (ich prostredia a kulisy nevznikajú v 3D, ale sú reálne postavené, čo je v tejto postprocesovej dobe malý zázrak), mystérium toho, ako veci, ktoré fotografuje, sa časom udejú, pominú alebo sú inak predznamenané v jeho tvorbe (true story :-) a jeho pohľady na svet, fotografiu, umenie, lásku a život, ktoré som mala to šťastie si dávnejšie vypočuť.
Či už LaChapella milujete alebo nemusíte, faktom je, že mať jeho výstavu v Bratislave je skvelé (spýtajte sa ľudí z galérie, majú tam plno ako v nákupnom centre... aké výstižné :-)

The boy with the tattooed arm, Bratislava streetstyle

Okay, I admit, I have not met Marek on the street by pure accident (don't hate me :-). I spotted him and his style after Lenka Sršňová's Bad Boys Wanted show. It was his first show as a model - he works as a tattoo artist - and just started off as a model in the very first agency I have heard of that casts only tattooed guys and girls, a very cool idea!
His mixture of details here just plays so well together (I don't know what's that thing about over the elbow rolled up sleeves, but.... it just look so fine :-), creating a very nostalgic and very modern allure at the same time. Perfect for these gloomy days, so have a nostalgic Friday! And feel free to show off your tattoos at the True Colors agency, they are still casting!

Oukej, priznávam, že Mareka som nestretla na ulici čistou náhodou. Všimla som si ho (a jeho štýl) po Bad Boys Wanted prehliadke Lenky Sršňovej, kde robil po prvýkrát modela, ináč pracuje ako tetovač. True story :-) Je z veľmi čerstvej agentúry True Colors, zrejme prvej, ktorá má v databáze iba tetovaných ľudí zo Slovenska a Čiech - super nápad!
Jeho kombinácia detailov na obrázkoch (neviem čo je na nad lakeť vyrolovaných rukávoch košele, ale.... niečo na nich je :-) spolu krásne vytvára veľmi nostalgický a zároveň veľmi moderný dojem. Ideálne na pochmúrne jesenné dni. Prajem krásny piatok! A všetci s tetovaniami, sem s vami, do True Colors!

I've met this lovely couple from Japan at the Jardin de Tuileries - looking back I mostly notice the little matching details of their get-ups. And the big men's scarf of course that to me, together with the confident look of the young man, draw the attention in the picture. Bon jour!

Bicycle stories: Žltý

I love, love learning about how people make their dreams come true. Graphic designer, co-owner of Milk creative studio and well known workaholic Žltý here has been always dreaming about having a Sobi 20 bike. So recently, he purchased one online for 15 Euros from Handlová and had it pimped at Slowatch. The design and colour (including the logo and the handles) was kept to save the original character of the bike. The seat was changed to an American type cruiser seat, which makes it really comfortable to sit and pedal, since Žltý keeps his bike at his office and uses it mainly for quick city trips. Black and white, orange and green elements were added to complement the whole picture: an unique bike for a unique person.
Žltý is the author of the visual identity of Pohoda festival as well as the one visual artist from Slovakia creating his own Absolut vodka bottle design. Hats down and Cheers to that!

Medzi moje obľúbené činnosti patrí počúvať príbehy o tom, ako si ľudia plnia sny. Grafický dizajnér, spolumajiteľ Milk kreatívneho štúdia a známy workoholik Žltý napríklad vždy sníval o tom, že bude mať bicykel Sobi 20. A tak si ho nedávno objednal v internetovom bazári za 15 Eur z Handlovej a nechal vylepšiť v Slowatchi. Farba a dizajn (vrátane loga a riadítok) zostali nedotknuté, aby sa zachoval pôvodný charakter biku. Zásadnou zmenou prešlo sedenie, ktoré sa zmenilo na pohodlné cruizer sedadlo v americkom štýle, aby na ňom pohodlne pedálovalo - keďže Žltý má svoj bike v práci a používa ho najmä na rýchle presuny po centre mesta. Čiernobiele, oranžové a zelené detaily dopĺňajú pôvodný celok a vyvárajú tak unikátny bicykel pre unikátneho majiteľa.
Žltý je autorom vizuálneho štýlu festivalu Pohoda a tiež jediným slovenským umelcom, ktorý v rámci celosvetového projektu vytvoril svoju verziu dizajnu fľaše Absolut vodky. Klobúk dole a nazdravie!

Okay, okay, this could be long, so let me help you out: this lovely, beautiful lady is exactly this girl's mom. Caught them having a Saturday afternoon coffee in the city. Love the little black dress/bag with a cuddly autumn coat combination of Mrs. Sido. Apparently, her 77 years old mother doesn't think so and tells her off for wearing a coat that "looks like from a dumpster".
Lesson of this post: No matter your age or number of children, you will still be someone's daughter, who doesn't approve of your clothing choices :-) Cheers to that!

Hádajte, koho mama? :-)
Dobre, dobre, toto by bola dlhá hra, takže táto krásna, milá dáma je mama práve tejto dievčiny. Natrafila som na ne na víkendovej poobedňajšej káve v meste, a veľmi sa mi páči sobotná nálada malých čiernych šiat/malej čiernej kabelky a hrejivého jesenného kabáta pani Sido. Evidentne, jej 77-ročná mama si myslí svoje, keď sa zakaždým zhrozí nad kabátom "ako zo smetiaka!"
Ponaučenie tohto príspevku: Je jedno, koľko máte rokov alebo detí, stále budete niekoho dcéra, kto si myslí, že sa obliekate absolútne nevhodne :-) Na zdravie!

Bicycle stories: Ivica

Welcome to Bicycle stories - a new (hopefully regular) feature inspired by the growing number of cyclist and their two wheeled loves.
These pictures have been shot a while back (really :-), but I decided to start with Ivica, not only because she is just sooo beautiful and has an equally cute bike and dog (! now this post has it all, cuteness overload!), but also because I have already once photographed her randomly on the street - over a year ago, look here.

Ivica's bike was a gift from a flea market close to Vienna, after her 10 years old mountain bike got stolen. About a year after riding it in Bratislava she decided to have it pimped by Jolo from Slowatch. Keeping its original lila-black-and yellow colour scheme from the 80's, she wanted to have a yellow chain and lila details on it. The seat has been refurbished by hand, some thinner sporty wheels and elevated cruiser handlebars have been added (Ivica loves to ride with her back straight - one of the reasons she wanted a city bike). A special feature was a basket for Lora, her adopted street mix dog, that goes with her everywhere (the basket has a wired top for transportation).

Vitajte v Bicycle stories, v novej (verím, že pravidelnej) rubrike, ktorá je inšpirovaná rastúcim počtom cyklistov v Bratislave a ich občas naozaj krásnymi kúskami.
Tieto fotky vznikli už kúsok dávnejšie (naozaj :-), rozhodla som sa však začať Ivicou, a nielen preto, že je krásna a šikovná a má rovnako čarovný bicykel a psa (dokonca! latka je vysoko pre ďalšie posty :-), ale aj preto, že ju som už raz na ulici náhodou stretla - pred vyše rokom, aha tu.
Ivicin bicykel bol darčekom z blšáku niekde pri Viedni, a dostala ho po tom, čo jej ukradli jej 10-ročný horský bicykel. Asi po roku jazdenia po Bratislave sa rozhodla pre vizuálny facelift od Jola zo Slowatchu. Spolu sa rozhodli ponechať pôvodnú fialovo-žlto-čiernu farebnosť z 80-tych rokov, a tieto farby sa preniesli aj do detailov: žltej reťaze, fialových riadítok a pedálov. Pribudla nanovo potiahnutá pôvodná pérová sedačka, tenšie športové kolesá a zdvihnuté cruiserové riadítka (Ivica rada jazdí s vystretým chrbátom, to bol tiež jeden z dôvodov, ktorý rozhodol v prospech mestského bicykla). Špeciálnym doplnkom je košík pre útulkáča Loru, ktorá robí Ivici parťáčku (košík má aj drôtený bezpečnostný vrch)

Obviously, it's biking season all year round in Paris (and other European cities. Wait, why not in Bratislava? Oh yes, this why :-). These pictures were taken last Spring and this Parisian lady is wearing ALL the colours I am planning to wear this Winter.... One season ahead of ME, again! Oh well, Paris :-)

Aha ho, v Paríži majú cyklistickú sezónu po celý rok. Čo dodať... napríklad tento článok o mýtoch, prečo v Bratislave nemôžeme jazdiť na bicykli. Tak.
Fotky boli fotené túto jar a parížska dáma na nich má na sebe presne TIE farby, ktoré plánujem nosiť túto zimu... Zasa som o sezónu pozadu, Paríž jeden :-)

Anna from Pleasemachine, at Bratislava Dizajnvíkend

I had already my sight set on some of the fine handmade pieces of footwear from Pleasemachine, so I was happy to meet the person behind the brand: Anna. Born in Russia, where she studied film making, moved to Budapest, where she studied at the school of industrial design. AND started making unique shoes for herself and her friends. Fajnové kúsky ručne šitých topánok značky Pleasemachine som mala už chvíľu napozerané, takže stretnutie s osobou za touto značkou ma len potešilo. Zoznámte sa: toto je Anna. Narodená v Rusku, kde študovala film, presťahovaná do Budapešti, kde študovala priemyselný dizajn. A zároveň začala pre seba a kamarátov šiť originálne topánky. Aké jednoduché :-) Dnes žije v Budapešti, kde má vlastný obchod. Aj tento tu. Nech sa ľúbi!
