Ela, a third generation of milliners in Košice

 While in Košice I met with Ela, a cheerful milliner of a third generation. And while we sat in her tiny tiny tiny! shop "Klobučníctvo Eleonóra" just of Hlavná street she showed me old photos of her grandmother Elena, who, at age 18, opened her own shop Salón Icka in Košice. Which means she was the youngest female entrepreneur in town, hats off to that! She started off by making hats for friends and maids working in Košice.
While wearing hats is not an everyday issue in Košice (I am not sure it is anywhere in the world right now...), funerals don't go without hats in Košice, a local unwritten rule. But it's not all weddings and funerals in this little shop, Ela has some lovely fedoras, riding caps and hats, and makes also her own line of slightly retro, funky hatwear. So if you happen to wander around town, look for a little shop in a courtyard around Hlavná 93 and stop by for a little chat and fooling around with trying on hats like we did with Misha, ha! :-)

Ešte počas víkendu v Košiciach som natrafila na Elu, veselú klobučníčku tretej generácie. Ako sme sedeli, či skôr postávali, v jej miniatúrnom obchodíku na Hlavnej ulici, vytiahla fotky svojej starej mamy Eleny, ktorá si ako 18-ročná otvorila vlastný Salón Icka v Košiciach, čím sa stala najmladšou podnikateľkou v meste. Na to sa dá len: klobúk dole! Stará mama Elena začala robiť klobúky pre kamarátky, známych a slúžky bohatých rodín.
Aj keď nosenie klobúkov nie je v Košiciach bežnou záležitosťou (ináč, zdá sa mi, že to dnes nie je bežné nikde na svete asi...), existuje miestna tradícia a nepísané pravidlo nosenia klobúkov na pohreby. Obchodík je však okrem dámičkovských klobúčikov plný aj super pánskych klobúkov, fedor, jazdeckých čiapok, slamákov, a Ela robí aj svoju autorskú, jemne retro, veselú líniu pokrývok hlavy. Ak sa teda budete náhodou túlať po Košiciach, hľadajte malé Klobučníctvo Eleonóra vo dvore okolo Hlavnej 93 a stavte sa na kus reči a zábavu so skúšaním klobúkov pred zrkadlom, ha! :-)
