Back from the mountains

Just got back from a week of work in the Tatras, with almost no wifi and even less time for it (or sleep), hence the absence of posts. 

I looove going to the mountains, just as much as I love coming home from them. After a week of functional wear (merino, wind stopper and Gore-Tex all the way) I am always looking forward dressing up, a manicure, heels (that I usually don't really wear) and a date night with my guy, ha! :-) Good to be back!

Práve som sa vrátila po týždni práce v Tatrách, s minimálnym prístupom k wifi a ešte minimálnejším časom na ňu (alebo na spánok), ospravedlňte preto absenciu postov.

Apropó, hory. Tak, ako milujem v nich tráviť čas, rovnako milujem cestu späť. Po týždni maximálne funkčného oblečenia (merino, wind stopper a Gore-Tex sú moje mantry) sa vždy teším na opätky (ktoré ináč nosím minimálne), manikúru, mestský život a rande s chlapom mojím, ha! Je fajn byť späť :-)

On the way to work, New York

A young New Yorker on his way to work. When curiously asked where does he work, he said that in an office, that encourages people to dress the way they want to. Wonder if they have casual Fridays... and if yes, how do they look like :-) Men in overalls, yes or no?

Mladý Newyorčan na ceste do práca. Na zvedavú otázku kde, prosím pekne, robí, povedal, že má kancelársku prácu, ale vo firme, ktorá podporuje to, aby sa ľudia obliekali ako chcú. Tak by ma zaujímalo, či majú tiež casual Fridays (ležérne piatky, a ako asi vyzerajú :-) Muži v overaloch. Ánoprosím alebo Nieďakujem?

(The very much loved old one is unfortunately broken and taken apart and I hope it will be put together successfully). Red gloves, Hallstatt

I didn't really think I will shoot any streestyle in Hallstatt, until I met this lady from the Salzkammergut region, wearing a modern version of the Dirndl, a traditional folk dress. While I really like her simple version of a grey, high quality dress (it must have been cashmere with wool), what got me here were the little details that change everything: notice the menswear moments like the classical white shirt (the Dirndl is usually worn with a flirty blouse), the hat (!), and I even like the massive boots in this combination and weather. Plus the classic leather bag and the screaming red gloves. This is, for me, wearing something traditional with a personal style.

Nedúfala som, že v Hallstatte nafotím nejaký streetstyle, ale potom som stretla túto dámu z regiónu Salzkammergut, v tradičnom rakúskom folklórnom odeve menom Dirndl. Aj keď jej šaty boli sympaticky jednoduché a aj na pohľad kvalitné (zrejme kašmír s vlnou), čo ma tu dostalo boli detaily, ktorých kombinácia dokáže zmeniť celkový dojem: konkrétne momenty z pánskeho šatníka ako klasická biela košeľa (tradične sa Dirndl nosí s našuchorenou blúzkou), klobúk (!), a dokonca aj masívne horské bačkory sa mi v tomto kontexte a počasí úplne pozdávajú. Čerešničkou je klasická kožená kabelka a neprehliadnuteľné červené rukavice. Pekný príklad ako nosiť niečo tradičné s veľkou dávkou osobného štýlu.

A Hallstatt end of year

Shame on me, but I had no idea a place called Hallstatt existed until, in a desperate attempt to find a beautiful, hidden, private hideaway for the end of the year (AND finding out that everything I liked was a few days before that already booked, shocker!) I put "most beautiful Austrian villages" into Google. True story. I was that desperate. And so I bumped into Hallstatt, an UNESCO heritage little village with less than 1 000 inhabitants surrounded by a big lake on one side and even bigger mountains on the other. It is unbelievably charming, almost like a movie set and not a real life.

Hanba mi, ale donedávna som netušila, že existuje miesto menom Hallstatt, až kým som vo svojom zúfalstve násť krásne, jemne odľahlé, malé, čarovné miesto na koniec roka (pretože všetko, čo sa mi troška pozdávalo, bolo tých pár dní pred Silvestrom plné, šokujúco!), nedala do Google heslo "najkrajšie rakúske dediny". Naozaj. A ono mi to medzi inými vyhodilo Hallstatt, dedinku na zozname svetového dedičstva UNESCO, s menej ako 1 000 obyvateľmi, zakliesnenú medzi veľkým jazerom a ešte väčšími horami. Naživo je ešte krajšia, až neuveriteľná, najviac mi pripomínala filmové kulisy.

Apart from wandering around we had a slightly bizzare, but tasty dinner in a local, truly austrian Gasthof...

Okrem túlania sa sme si dali aj ľahko bizarnú, ale chutnú silvestrovskú večeru v miestnom echt rakúskom Gasthofe...

  ...and at the local tiny cemetery (with its own ossuary) said goodbye to 2012...

Oh, and I wanted to shortly show you some of my favorite Christmas presents this year. I must have been gooooood, haha!

Ešte som vám rýchlo chcela ukázať moje obľúbené vianočné darčeky tento rok, musela som veľmi poslúchať, haha!

 My guy is really the best mind (and inbetween the lines) reader, so this beautiful, amazing Polaroid camera until now borrowed by instantshop, is now definitely in my possession, with some films included.

Môj chlap je najdômyselnejší čítač tajných myšlienok (a medzi riadkami mu to ide tiež veľmi dobre) a tak sa tento prekrásny, úžasný Polaroid foťák pôvodne zapožičaný z instantshopu nadobro presunul do môjho vlastníctva, aj s nejakými filmami.

And because on FB I couldn't decide which bySju hat I want, I got both (one from my guy and one from Sju!) Thank you, it made my evening. I even took a picture (ok, about 10) in the mirror! :-)

A pretože som sa na FB nevedela rozhodnúť, ktorý klobúk od bySju chcem viac, dostala som oba (jeden od chlapa, druhý od Sju!). Ďakujem, bola som v ten večer šťastná ako blcha v zrkadle! :-)

Blogger's delight 2012

A small, nostalgic recap of 2012's top blogger moments for me:
Malá nostalgia nad top blogerskými momentami roku 2012, ta-dáááám:

1. Personally, it was certainly the honor of being invited as the guest speaker at The Hive - the first European blog conference in Berlin (photo above from the morning hipster coffee at the Betahaus) - and all the inspiration and people I met there: Radostina from Prague and the fabulous interior design blog 79 ideas, Eleni from Greece and her lovely design blog My paradissi, I also enjoyed the speeches of the amazing guys from Freunde von Freunden (picture below), the presentation of the smart and inspirational sisters Toni and Thea of the online magazine Sister Mag, the über-succesful American blogger Gabrielle from design mom (did you know she was the first ever blogger to come up with a giveaway on her blog?). Before Berlin, I did not know mom-bloggers are such a big thing in Western Europe, in Berlin they have a street style blog as well: Hauptstadt Mutti.
As the only fashion blogger invited, my speech was called "What two years of fashion blogging have taught me" and my nervousness was overwhelmed by the amazing Twitter response it got, so I want to thank everyone who came to listen to it, it was my privilege!

Pre mňa osobne to určite bolo pozvanie hovoriť na The Hive - prvej európskej blogerskej konferencii v Berlíne (fotka vyššie z rannej hipsta kávy v mieste konania, Betahause) - a možnosť stretnúť všetkých tých inšpiratívnych ľudí: Radostinu z Prahy a jej fantastický medzinárodný interierový blog 79 ideas, Eleni z Grécka a jej blog o dizajne, My paradissi. Zážitkom boli prednášky od makačov Freunde von Freunden (na obrázku nižšie), prezentácia veľmi milých a šikovných sestier Toni a Thei z online magazínu Sister Mag, megaúspešná americká blogerka Gabrielle z design mom (bola prvou blogerkou, ktorá na svojom blogu ponúkla giveaway, prakticky ho vymyslela, ts). Pred Berlínom som netušila, že blogujúce mamy sú taká veľká vec v západnej Európe, v Berlíne majú dokonca vlastný street style blog: Hauptstadt Mutti.
Medzi pozvanými speakermi som bola jediná z oblasti módy a hovorila som o tom, čo ma dva roky blogovania naučili. Jasné, že som bola meganervózna a potom meganechápala z tých reakcií na Twitteri. Týmto vďaka všetkým, ktorí pri tom boli, bolo mi cťou!

2. Another very personal blogger highlight was the trip to the worldwide launch of Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection in New York, reports from it here and here.
 Ďalším osobným highlightom bola cesta na celosvetový launch kolekcie Maison Martin Margiela for H&M v New Yorku, články z toho nájdete tu and tu.

3. Other blogger moments that made me happy: the lovely fashion blogger Eva Schön following her dream and opening her own vintage and second hand shop in Prague, Origami Fashion. Babô, the student of architecture, starting and interior and architecture blog. A male style blogger with a sense of humor. Paging Ryan :-) The tumblr page of Véčko, specially her fashion collages, love them! The first ever Slovak kid's style blog, Le Mini (okay, technically it started at the end of 2011, but made me happy in 2012 :-) The "Mothers around me" photo series by Katta. And I am sure I remember only some of it... Help me out here, did I forget something, some blogosphere highlight? Was something very special for you in 2012?

Blogerské momenty, ktoré ma minulý rok bavili: milá Eva Schön nasledovala svoj sen a v Prahe si otvorila svoj vintage a second hand butik, Origami Fashion. Babô, študentka architektúry začala písať interiérový a architektonický blog. Fashion-bloger-muž so zmyslom pre humor. Haló, Ryan :-) Tumblr stránka Véčka, špeciálne jej fashion koláže! Prvý slovenský blog pre miniľudí, Le Mini (tak dobre, technicky začal v roku 2011, ale bavil ma aj v roku 2012:-). Fotoséria "Mothers around me"  od Katty. Hmmm, som si istá, že si nepamätám všetko... Pomôžte mi, zabudla som na niečo, na nejaký top moment roku 2012? Čo bolo nezabudnuteľné pre vás v minulom roku?

Women that work/live/travel/party together

One weekend I was traveling to Prague with a friend, and when we met in front of my car, we were like looking into a mirror (well, apart from our natural given features like height - sometimes I even think we look quite funny together, haha), anyway: jeans, Converses, trench coats, big leather bags, all for a weekend of walking around, hunting good food and design.
For some reason this happens to women who spend time together sharing things/ideas/recipes/gossip/friendship - it's like they tune into each others frequencies and the strangest things start happening. A few years ago in my work at some coffee sharing in the company's little kitchen it turned out that some of the girls even had their periods at the same time (yup, that happens, so what. Anyway, it is probably the only time the word "period" in this context will come up on this blog :-).
The girls on the pictures work at Anthropologie's Soho store in New York and no, this is not their work uniform, they just happened to come to work in a very similar get-up. I know what you are going to say: yes, sometimes it might be the case of following trends and in extremes wearing the same pieces the same way (I just saw somewhere a picture of two strangers sitting on the subway decked out in identically worn grey beanies and army jackets), but here I don't think it is a case of a sudden hot trend of jeans shirts and patterned skirts, what I rather like here is that even if this is a case of "tuning into" each others frequencies, the girls each wear the pieces in their own style. Like women that spend waaaay to much time together at work :-)
Did anything similar ever happen to you?

Jeden jesenný víkend sme s kamarátkou cestovali do Prahy na víkend a keď sme sa stretli pri aute, bolo to takmer akoby sme sa pozerali do zrkladla (teda, odhliadnuc od niektorých našich prirodzene daných parametrov ako výška napríklad - niekedy vyzeráme ako malý a veľký kamarát, haha), každopádne: džínsy, Conversy, trenčkoty, veľké kožené tašky, proste pripravené na víkend chodenia za dobrým jedlom a dizajnom.
Z nejakého dôvodu sa takéto veci ženám stávajú, špeciálne tým, ktoré trávia spolu veľa času zdieľaním vecí/nápadov/receptov/klebiet/priateľstva - akoby sa naladili na spoločnú frekvenciu a potom sa dejú tie najzvláštnejšie veci. Pred pár rokmi v práci pri nejakej káve vo firemnej kuchynke vysvitlo, že viaceré dievčatá mali v tom istom čase svoje dni (stáva sa, a čo. Aj tak je to zrejme jediný kontext, v ktorom sa na tomto blogu táto téma objaví :-)
Dievčatá na fotke robia v obchode Anthropologie v newyorskom Soho a toto nie je ich pracovná uniforma, len sa im v ten deň podarilo prísť podobne oblečené v džínsových košeliach a vzorovaných sukniach. Viem, čo vám práve napadlo: áno, často to môže byť aj tým, že niektoré ženy otrocky sledujú trendy a kupujú kúsky čo sú práve v ponuke obchodov a potom po uliciach pochoduje armáda veľmi podobne oblečených žien (nedávno som niekde videla fotku dvoch neznámych žien vedľa seba v metre, v identických šedých čiapkach a army kabátoch), toto tu mi to však nepríde ako horúci trend džínsových košieľ so vzorovanými sukňami, ale aj keby náhodou áno, páči sa mi, že každá si ho interpretovala podľa seba. Ako ženy, ktoré trávia príliš veľa času spolu v práci :-)
