On the way to work, New York

A young New Yorker on his way to work. When curiously asked where does he work, he said that in an office, that encourages people to dress the way they want to. Wonder if they have casual Fridays... and if yes, how do they look like :-) Men in overalls, yes or no?

Women that work/live/travel/party together

One weekend I was traveling to Prague with a friend, and when we met in front of my car, we were like looking into a mirror (well, apart from our natural given features like height - sometimes I even think we look quite funny together, haha), anyway: jeans, Converses, trench coats, big leather bags, all for a weekend of walking around, hunting good food and design.
For some reason this happens to women who spend time together sharing things/ideas/recipes/gossip/friendship - it's like they tune into each others frequencies and the strangest things start happening. A few years ago in my work at some coffee sharing in the company's little kitchen it turned out that some of the girls even had their periods at the same time (yup, that happens, so what. Anyway, it is probably the only time the word "period" in this context will come up on this blog :-).
The girls on the pictures work at Anthropologie's Soho store in New York and no, this is not their work uniform, they just happened to come to work in a very similar get-up. I know what you are going to say: yes, sometimes it might be the case of following trends and in extremes wearing the same pieces the same way (I just saw somewhere a picture of two strangers sitting on the subway decked out in identically worn grey beanies and army jackets), but here I don't think it is a case of a sudden hot trend of jeans shirts and patterned skirts, what I rather like here is that even if this is a case of "tuning into" each others frequencies, the girls each wear the pieces in their own style. Like women that spend waaaay to much time together at work :-)
Did anything similar ever happen to you?

Lise, New York

While I was sitting on the bench from the previous post, the beautiful Lise (a model from Norway, living in NYC) stopped by. After some hesitation she took the shop assistant's advice and picked up a book from the shelf. I love the idea of light, white shoes in autumn/winter (I need some white shoes like that!), in fact the whole black-blue-white combo is pretty inspiring.

Mňa inšipirovala jej kombinácia čiernej, modrej a bielej. Presne také biele topánky určite potrebujem!

Two years apart, New York

 2012

 2010

While walking around Soho, I randomly happened to come across the same shop on the same street, right opposite of the same cafe, with the same bench (by the way, I love this bench-in-front-of-the-cafe thing, just like my grandma used to sit in front of her house, people-watching, haha). I remembered the bench and the shelf with the books free to take and thought it would be fun to re-create a two years old photograph. Only it Lenard doesn't work in that shop anymore, but Leo does :-)

April, New York

Still riding that black and grey theme.... And honestly, a great hat can do so much for you: creating shapes, enhancing colours, evoking images, emotions. Love the one April has on!

Áno, stále sme v čierno-šedej téme... A úprimne, skvelý klobúk/čiapka dokážu veľké veci: hrať sa s tvarmi, zdôrazniť farby, vyvolať predstavy, pocity. A ten, čo má April, je úplne skvelý!

Self-made, New York

Anther black and grey coolness. Luke is a tattoo artist from California, living in New York, and as his tattoo says, a self- made man. You can check out the complete tattoo at the internet version of my Instagram account.

Ešte viac čieno-šedej štýlovosti. Luke je tetovač z Kalifornie, žijúci v New Yorku, a ako jeho tetovanie hovorí, self-made man. Celé tetovanie nájdete na internetovej stránke môjho Instagram účtu.

Black and grey, New York

One of my favorite pictures and outfits from New York. Very black. And grey. (God, I wish I was so cool...)

Jedna z mojich obľúbených fotiek a outfitov z New Yorku. Čierna. Šedá. Nad vecou a krásna.

New York, I love you

A few pics from a few nights in New York. We left just hours before Sandy hit, kept thinking about everyone we met and everyone we did not meet. Love that place...

Pár obrázkov z pár dní a nocí v New Yorku. Odišli sme tesne predtým ako dorazil hurikán Sandy, celý čas som myslela na všetkých, ktorých sme stretli, a ešte viac na všetkých, ktorých sme nestretli. To tam ľúbim, no.

Colorz! New York

"The use of expressive colors is felt to be one of the basic elements of the modern mentality, an historical necessity, beyond choice."

Meredith, New York

Another girl, another hat and style that comes with it. Meeting Meredith was so funny: she just seemed to find the fact, that I wanted to photograph her, really and honestly hilarious :-) She really has that sweetly naive "Funny Face" vibe going on here, and (even though I would probably ditch the jacket, sorry), I love, love her velvet blue pants with the ankle boots and the brown hat. And her smile of course! Ok, now I feel like watching and Audrey Hepburn movie...

Iné dievča, iný klobúk, iný štýl. Stretnutie s Meredith bolo celkom komické, keďže sa jej celý čas zdalo ohromne a úprimne vtipné, že som ju chcela odfotiť :-) Keď sa pozerám na fotky, prekukuje mi tam taká tá sladká naivita z filmu "Funny Face", a napriek tomu, že by som to sako vymenila, učarovali mi zamatové modré nohavice s hnedými kotníkovými topánkami a klobúkom. A samozrejme jej smiech! Tak, a úplne som dostala chuť pozrieť si film s Audrey Hepburn...

Svetlana, New York

One of the many things I love about New York and its streets is that during your walk through Soho you can bump into Lithuanian model Svetlana (I hope she didn't say Latvian, ups...) whose ex-boyfriend, Kamil, comes from Trenčín (and is a former male model. Beautiful people, unite!) It makes me feel like a world citizen, really. And I want her hat.

Vyvoláva to vo mne nadnášajúci pocit ľahkosti svetového občana. A chcem jej klobúk.

MMM with H&M / night

The night/party presentation of the MMM with H&M collection started with us rushing into an abandoned building on Beekman street, then stopped in amazement, staring right up all the 9-stories, that all had open balconies - so from every balcony you could see the ground and the ceiling of the building.

On the 4th, 5th and 6th floor was the presentation: in form of short contemporary dance performances by dancers of the Belgian Rosas dance company, who were performing on squares covered by fine white sand. After each performance, the dancers left their marks and parts of their clothes scattered in the white sand, creating an artistic print in time. And off you went to the next square...

The performances were great people-watching opportunities too.

Oh, hello, beautiful Julianne Moore! She was one of the few celebs watching the performances, while many of them ended up in the VIP section (more about who was there/wore what in this article by Zdeno).

The final performace by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker was held on the ground floor, so everyone could watch it from the balconies...

Záverečné vystúpenie Anny Teresy De Keersmaeker bolo pripravené na prízemí, aby ho všetci mohli vidieť z rôznych pavlačových poschodí...

...with the balconies turning into light and silver confetti filled place.

...a tie poschodia potom zalialo svetlo a strieborné konfety.

On the 7th floor art installations, created for this event, were exhibited.

On the 8th floor were bars and the dance floor and a line of TVs showing the recorded performances of the night.

A very decent memory from that floor, ha: with Zdenko and Katarína. I was wearing a dress from Mária Štraneková's new Dust collection, grey blazer also by Mária, yellow clutch borrowed by Katka.

...or more of a Margiela style photo #no faces, courtesy of an artistic (not!) party goer and Zdeno's camera :-)
On the last, ninth floor was a pop-up shop, but when we got up there, right some time after midnight, it was no longer photogenic, trust me.

And my personal celebrity of the night: photographer Ellen von Unwerth! Thanks to Katka's fisheye. Yeah, I am totally starstruck there. It was a great night. While still a few days in New York lay before us... For videos from the night and the collection, click here and enjoy!

A moja súkromná celebrita toho večera: fotografka Ellen von Unwerth! Vďaka Katkinmu fisheye. Áno, som tam ľahko paralyzovaná hviezdnym prachom. Bola to skvelá noc. A to sme mali ešte pár dní v New Yorku stále pred sebou... Videá z noci a z kolekcie nájdete tu, nech sa ľúbi!
