People and living: Romi and Igor

One thing I love about the end of the year is looking back at all the beautiful moments that happened and that weren't necessarily shot for the blog, but now is the time to show you some of them. I was lucky to spend some time with the gorgeous couple Romi and Igor in their apartment and while doing a few shots for them, I couldn't resist shooting the surroundings. As the shooting was in black and white, so are these pictures, and I think it suits them. It is such a stylish, cool place, bearing all over Romi's refined taste and professional knowledge (check out her interior styling work at decorus design).

Vec, ktorá ma koncoch roka baví, je ohliadnuť sa za krásnymi momentami roka, ktoré sa udiali a ktoré neboli určené pôvodne na blog, ale práve ten koniec roka je príležitosť niektoré uverejniť. Medzi nimi bol čas strávený s krásnou dvojicou Romi a Igorom v ich byte. Popri fotení pre nich mi nedalo nafotiť pár záberov krásneho priestoru. Fotili sme na čiernobiely film a mám pocit, že tomuto priestoru tá čiernobiela pristane. V celom štýlovom byte cítiť Romin zmysel pre krásno a detail, ako aj funkčnosť bývania (jej prácu interiérového dizajnéra si môžete pozrieť na stránke decorus design).

The whole apartment is full of wonderful details and ideas. And look at that wardrobe - it was custom made based on Romi's design.

 Celý byt je plný krásnych detailov a nápadov. A všimnite si ten šatník - bol robený na mieru podľa Rominho návrhu.

Si.li are two Slovak artist, Simona Janišová and Linda Viková and they make beautiful ceramics. These day they opened up their studio to all visitors and present hunters, find it here.

At the Clinique store in Aupark they have the ultimate gift sets. They look like cakes. And smell beautifully!

The only place in Slovakia where you can buy hats of the Slovak and at the same time very international brand bySju, is Slávica design store on Laurinská street. The hats are worn by Will.I.Am too. Go for them. And check out the amazing colours!

Little ideas: PlayShapes

All right, so here it is. I think it is time littleM got her own saying on this blog (and own tag "littleM"), she is such a part of everything I do, it is just inevitable. Plus, there is so much stuff with beautiful design for kids (and some of it for grown ups as well ehm) I would like to share with you, so let's see where this leads us. There is soooo much to talk about!
Anyway, I like to think of myself as an open-minded, realistic, not too anxious mom with a sense of humor and style (haha, such an idealistic picture) and I am thankful to have like-minded moms around me. The moment where my sense of humor trembles in its roots, is her being sick. Trying to get her healthy. Keeping her inside and entertained (a lot of humor needed there!).
Exactly at that moment we started to play with PlayShapes, a set of 74 wooden shapes crafted from environmentally-friendly, durable rubberwood. The possibilities you can build from the shapes are endless and fun to look at. Plus, it is a toy that will grow with her, she will discover new possibilities as she grows, which is an aspect I love. A je to tu. Mám pocit, že nastal čas, aby malá maláM svoj priestor na blogu. Je neoddeliteľnou súčasťou všetkého, čo robím, formuje celý môj svet, je to až nevyhnutnosť. Navyše, sama som objavila nový svet krásneho dizajnu pre deti (a niečo z toho aj pre dospelých žehej), o ktorý by som sa rada podelila a uvidíme, kam to povedie. Ani neviem kde začať, je toho toľkooooo!
Každopádne, manifest na začiatok: rada si o sebe myslím, že som mamou s otvorenou hlavou, realistickou, nie príliš úzkostlivou, s nadhľadom a štýlom (haha, trošku si fandím, no), a som vďačná za podobné mamy v mojom okolí. Moment, keď sa môj nadhľad otriasa v základoch je, keď je maláM chorá. Dlho chorá. A snažím sa ju chrániť a zabaviť doma (to chce veľa nadhľadu!)

Momentálne máme také dni a úplne nám padla vhod skladačka PlayShapes, sada 74 tvarov z ekologického a trvácneho dreva kaučukovníka. Možností tvoriť zo skladačky je nekonečno a dobre sa na ne aj pozerá. Ako benefit vnímam, že skladačka porastie s ňou, ona prirodzene časom objaví nové možnosti, čo je vlastne super vrámci udržateľnosti. Aha, samostatná téma: udržateľnosť hračiek! 
Skladačku vymysleli v Anglicku, predáva ju Mr. Wood. Všetky drevené hračky v ponuke nájdete tu.  Len pripomínam aj drevené písmená Mr. Wood, ktoré sú dokonalým doplnkom do detskej izby.

This weekend, Prague is the place to be. That is, if you're interested in design, fashion, books, activities for kids. I visited mini festival's first opening back in Spring, and this winter edition promises to be even better. Unfortunately, I have to stay in Bratislava because of work, but if I would have been there, I would definitely check out: the extremely cool wallpapers by Ice Ice Baby, the very new collection of pyjamas for the whole family by Dita P., these design pieces by vitra, and also, the simple, stylish kids shoes sold by Nila Kids (finally someone!), or Lípa, toys based on Czech craft traditions, or these original, playful wraps. Tento víkend by to malo byť smer Praha pre všetkých, ktorých zaujíma dizajn pre deti - móda, knihy, hračky, aktivity. Na jar som bola pozrieť otvárací ročník predajného festivalu pre deti, mini, a táto zimná edícia vyzerá ešte sľubnejšie. Ja musím kvôli práci ostať v Bratislave, ale kebyže sa vyberiem na mini, tak určite sa zastavím preskúmať: superské tapety Ice Ice Baby, kolekciu pyžám pre celú rodinu od Dity P., tieto dizajnové kúsky od vitry, na ktoré si robím už dlhšie zálusk, ako aj konečne pekné, basic, štýlové topánky z Nila Kids (lebo detské topánky sú kategória sama o sebe), alebo  hračky Lípa, vychádzajúce z českej remeselnej tradície, a určite aj tieto pôvodné, milé deky.  Zoznam predajcov aj program festivalu nájdete tu. Diagram concept store

A new, beautiful concept store has found its place on Bratislava's map, mainly focusing on minimalistic design jewellery. Yes, exactly those delicate necklaces, bracelets with personal detials or precious stones that I quietly admire on all the IT girls. Diagram's pick of brands is also exceptional, they are the only ones representing some of the brands. 

Na mape Bratislavy nedávno pribudol nový, krásny concept store zameraný na minimalistický dizajnérsky šperk. Presne také tie jemné retiazky, náramky s vychytanými detailami alebo drahými kameňmi, ktoré ticho obdivujem na všetkých IT girls. Výnimočnosťou sú aj ponúkané značky, ktoré Diagram dováža ako jediný na Slovensko.

One table, three ideas

I love, love the spring, the sun, its energy, the way the air smells, the first chairs outside cafes. One of the effects spring has on me is my desire to reorganize things in our apartment, to remove stuff I don't want/need/suddenly changed my mind about it, and to get in new pieces. And I realized that just the way I like multi-functional pieces of clothing, I prefer furniture that can change its purpose and live on as something else, somewhere else. I'll show you what I mean on this new piece in our home: a table with a drawer, found among these design pieces, firstly meant for our bedroom as a bedside table, where it fit in nicely.

Milujem jar, slnko, tú novú energiu a vôňu vo vzduchu, a prvé stoličky na terasách kaviarní. Okrem toho má na mňa jar očistný vplyv, vždy ma pochytí chuť popresúvať interiér, odstrániť veci, ktoré už nepotrebujem/nechcem/proste som na ne zmenila názor, a zároveň pribudne pár nových kúskov. A uvedomila som si, že rovnako ako v šatníku, aj v interiéri mám rada multifunkčné kúsky, ktoré dokážu meniť svoj účel, nabrať nový dych a zmysel. Predvediem na stolíku, ktorý nám nedávno pribudol, a ktorý som si vybrala z dizajnového nábytku tu, a jeho pôvodnou funkciou bol nočný stolík so zásuvkou, vo farebnosti spálne.

After some time though the table changed its place when I moved this armchair from the bedroom into the living area. It has simply gone with it, serving as a resting place for books, drinks, toys and flowers, depending on who was using it.

Po nejakom čase sa stolík presunul, keď som presunula aj kreslo zo spálne do obývacej časti. Jednoducho zmenil miesto s kreslom, a stal sa z neho príručný stolík na knihy, nápoje, hračky, kvety, v závislosti kto ho práve používal a kedy.

Being in the living area, it came handy when the room needs a table to serve coffee on. Or for little M to practice her standing skills. Thankfully it is heavy enough (massive wood. Was a bit challenging to put together, but stands strong), so she can hold onto it and lean on it.

Zároveň sa v priestore osvedčil v momente, keď sme potrebovali kávový stolík, pre návštevy. Alebo keď malá M nedávno začala trénovať vstávanie a postávanie. Vďaka jeho váhe (je to masív. Nemontoval sa ľahko, ale prevne drží), sa ho môže veselo chytať a opierať sa oňho.

P.S. Also, looking at these pictures I just realized that having a very neutral base in a living space (white, black, wood) is an advantage not only when moving furniture from room to room (like this table), but also when your space gets invaded by all those strangely shpaed and coloured kids pieces (I really don't understand why everything has to come in crazy colours). Anyway, in a simple, clean space these strange pieces suddenly look like a decoration, like pieces from a different pop-culture.

P.S. Pri týchto fotkách som si uvedomila ďalšiu vec: mať jednoduchý, neutrálny základ interiéru (biela, čierna, drevo) je výhodou nielen pri premiestňovaní takýchto kúskov, ktoré vám tak sadnú v ktorejkoľvek miestnosti, ale aj pri tom, keď vám do priestoru pribúdajú čudne tvarované a divoko farebné detské predmety a hračky (ktoré naozaj netuším, prečo sa nedajú vyrábať v neutrálnych prevedeniach). Každopádne, v čistom priestore pôsobia aj farebné čudnosti ako oživenie, farebná dekorácia z inej pop-kultúry.

It was yesterday that mini, the first annual kid's festival has opened in Prague, and tomorrow we are off to it with little M. Looking at the participating brands fills me with expectation and a vision of an empty wallet, see the list here. We are looking forward to the Czech fashion brand Ice Ice Baby, as well as to the wooden toys Kutulu by young designer Pavla Boháčová, who is building on the Czech tradition of wooden toys, and even though cradles are long a staged little M has passed, I am looking forward seeing the beautiful cradles by designer Lucie Koldová, who won Grand Designer of 2012. Včera začal v Prahe detský predajný festival mini, a my naňho zajtra vyrážame s malou M. Zoznam zúčastnených značiek a dizajnérov je sľubný, tu si ho môžete pozrieť celý, za nás sa tešíme na oblečenie od českej značky Ice Ice Baby, drevené hračky Kutulu od mladej dizajnérky Pavly Boháčovej, ktoré naväzujú na českú tradíciu drevených hračiek pre deti, a síce sa to malej M už netýka, ale poobdivujeme naživo aj prekrásne kolísky Lucie Koldovej, nositeľky titulu grand designér roka 2012. Invitation: mini festival in Prague

With little M we are getting ready for her big trip to Prague - to visit some friends, see the world AND the first annual mini children's festival. Finally an event that highlights (mostly local) design, fashion, books, furniture and accessories and is dedicated to kids! It will probably ruin me, ha, but I am looking forward to it. Konečne akcia, na ktorej dostane priestor (väčšinou lokálny) dizajn, móda, knihy, nábytok a doplnky a to všetko pre deti! Predpokladám, že nás to zdravo zruinuje, ha, a teším sa na to. Festival sa koná v krásnej Ville Pellé a jej priľahlej záhrade, a okrem predajnej výstavy sú jeho súčasťou aj sprievodné aktivity (tie sú zadarmo). Dress for a muse by Andrea Pojezdálová

For the sixth year in a row a young designer gets the chance to design a one time only dress that is worn by the host of the Tatra banka Foundation Art Awards ceremony - Adela Banášová. It is one of the ways the Foundation continuously supports art and design. This year the designer of choice is the just graduated Andrea Pojezdálová, and I was there to follow the process with my camera.
Andrea chose the dress to be a reflection of her collection Persephone. She wanted Adela (who basically works through the night while wearing the dress) to feel free, light and beautiful in it. This idea is also supported by simplicity in shape: clean lines and the lightness of the material, all inspired by the Art Deco movement. The final colours - white and gold - reflect the celebratory feel of the night.

Už je to šiesty rok, čo mladý dizajnér dostáva šancu vytvoriť autorské šaty na jedinečnú príležitosť a pre jedinú osobu: moderátorku večera Ceny Nadácie Tatra banky za umenie, Adelu Banášovú. Je to jedna z foriem, ktorou Nadácia systematicky podporuje dizajn a umenie. Tento rok padla voľba na čerstvú absolventku módneho dizajnu, Andreu Pojezdálovú, a ja som bola s fotoaparátom zasa raz pri tom.
Andrea pri tvorbe šiat vychádzala z vlastnej tvorby, konkrétne kolekcie Persephone. Chcela vytvoriť šaty, v ktorých by sa jej nositeľka, ktorá v nich vlastne celý večer pracuje, cítila voľná, bez obmedzení a vynikla jej prirodzená krása. Tento zámer podporila tvarovou čistotou, ľahkosťou línií a materiálu, pričom sa inšpirovala hnutím Art Deco. Výsledná farebnosť - biela a zlatá - podporuje slávnostný pocit večera.

Na prvú skúšku priniesla Andrea už "živú" skicu šiat vytvorenú zo skúšobného materiálu (tak krásneho, že dojem bol hneď na prvú ohromujúci, a keby náhodou išli na vyhodenie, hlásim sa o ne, ha).

For the first meeting, Andrea brought in a "live" sketch of the dress from a trial material (which was so beautiful that the first impression was unforgettable. And in case it should ever by discarded, I am here to adopt, ha).

At the second meeting the skirt part of the dress got adjusted to measure and a nude body got shaped and fitted - it will be the invisible skin, hidden under a top which will be baring Adela's back.

Na druhej skúške sa na mieru upravovala sukňová časť šiat a tvarovalo a pasovalo telové body, ktoré bude neviditeľnou druhou kožou, schované pod vrchom šiat, odhaľujúcich chrbát.

At the third meeting the shape of the dress started to come alive, showing the almost finished dress. The top part made of gold lurex with silk got added on. The overall shape of the dress got defined by  significant ripples on the front of the skirt. The idea here is that the dress will come alive, move and gently flow into one another with its owner.

Tretia skúška už naznačovala finálne tvaroslovie, s takmer hotovými šatami. Pribudla vrchná časť zo zlatého lurexu s hodvábom, a celkový tvar šiat zadefinovalo výrazné vlnovkové tvarovanie predku šiat. Predstava je, že pri pohybe budú šaty žiť a s ľahkosťou splývať s ich nositeľkou.

To accessorize and finish the look, Andrea has asked jewellery student Maňa Berec to join the process. Based on the golden colour of the top, its lightness, the open back and bare arms, Maňa has prepared the application of delicate golden chains that she has layered on the skin, including a statement neck piece (which we have all oohed and aahed over and tried it on, naturally).

Na dotvorenie celkového dojmu a stylingu si Andrea prizvala študentku šperku Maňu Berec, ktorá pripravila možnosti aplikácie pozlátených retiazok na telo a šaty. Vychádzala pri tom zo zlatej farby vrchu šiat, ich ľahkosti a odhaleného chrbta a ramien, na ktoré retiazky vrstvila, vrátane efektného kúska na krk (nad ktorým sme všetci slintani a skúšali si ho, samozrejme).
