Vintage streetstyle, round 4: Vintage couple

Picture sent by Barbora B.: "On the picture is my grandmother Helena. It was taken towards the end of the 50s in Púchov, on the occasion of an engagement: the young man next to my grandmother is her future husband Viliam, my grandfather. (By the way, grandma, until today, is upset and doesn't understand why they were posing in front of a strange shed :-) But I would rather direct your attention to my grandma's velvet dress, gentle necklace and hand crocheted gloves.) She has always been very chic. At some point she used to work for Makyta as a model, and used to sew her own clothes. We still have boxes of beautiful, good quality garments that she did for herself and her daughters."

Istý čas pracovala v Makyte, kde robila modelku a oblečenie si zvyčajne šila sama.

As promised, now we'll show the handsome man who took the pictures in the previous vintage streetstyle post. Pictures sent by Patrícia K.: "On the pictures is my grandfather, who studied winegrowing and viniculture in Nitra. My favorite is the one where is jumping over the car, he took it using self-timer."

Pictures of her grandma sent by Patrícia: "I have always loved photographs, kept looking at them and collecting them, so now I have quite a few :-) On the first picture is my grandma, as a student in the town of Nitra. This picture is my favorite, it was taken by my grandad. On the second one is grandma as a new mom, in 1970."
Thank you! Patrícia's grandfather (the handsome photographer) coming soon..

Fotky svojej starej mamy poslala Patrícia: "Odmalička som zbožňovala fotografie, stále som si ich pozerala, zbierala a ukladala.

Pictures sent by Martina H.: "Only this year did I discover the photographs of my parents. Photographs from the week that I was probably conceived. Photographs from their first holiday together by the see, in 1970. A year later I was born. Jacqueline and John F. Kennedy - that's how I see them. They were alone and for a short time, taking pictues of each other."

Fotky poslala Martina H.: "Ja som len tento rok objavil fotografie mojich rodičov.

Vintage streetstyle, round 4: Bikini

A very special vintage summer post to make it through these days :-) This pictures of her grandmother, Margita, I got from Terézia L. Taken on Tehelné pole public pool in Bratislava, this was allegedly the very first bikini in Bratislava (!) and the gorgeous Margita made it herself. Straw hats up and cheers to the sun!

Klobúk hore a slnku a vode zdar!

Vintage streetstyle, round 4: Dots

Two seemingly unrelated pictures sent by Mária N.: "I found these two pictures while scanning old photographs from our grandma's photo album. The first one is from the summer of 1954 - my grandma Mária is photographed while bathing at the Dubník lake near Stará Turá. She's had style all her life (turns 81 in May), and in this swimsuit she must have turned a few heads (pic taken by my grandfather :-).
On the other picture is my uncle Martin, around 1961. It's obvious that grandma transferred her sense of style towards her kids." Her style and her love of dots!

Vkus a lásku k bodkám!

Vintage streetstyle, round 4: Hair!

Photo sent by Simona H.: "Sending a picture of my mom, sometime around 1976, taken by my uncle. She doesn't like this picture, but I think it is excelent." Totally agree. And please, can I have that hair?

Vintage streetstyle, round 4: starting with a dose of love!

The fourth round of Vintage streetstyle has officially started. NOW! With these wonderful, love-themed photos from Enrú: "The most beautiful vintage in one's life has to be their parents, right? These are mine. Outfit-coordinated with love. On their bikes (above) and in matching stripes they cycled through Slovakia (we still have that retro-thermos in our basement!). Mum used to sew a lot, for both of them. Everything! Even bathing suits. Or these matching shirts from the meadows (below). Nowadays they don't coordinate colours and patterns anymore... they coordinated their souls. They are called Betinka and Stanko, but they call each other Bez and Vtáčik. Pictures taken in 1964-67."

Štvrté kolo Vintage streetstyle považujte za otvorné. OD-TÉ-RAZ!

Info: If you want to share your family album style treasures, you are very welcome, please do so by sending the scanned photos and the story of the people to the address: tonbogirl.blogspot@gmail.com. If you have already sent your pictures and they weren't published, thank you for your patience, I will write back to you very soon. The fourth round will be (probably) finished by the end of May, and for sure there will be a wonderful Lomography camera to win :-)

UPDATE!

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Winners

So it took a while, but here we are, Vintage streetstyle round 3 is finally closed, votes counted, and as much as I loved all the pictures sent in (find all the pictures and stories here) and would love to reward you all as a Thank you for them, I only have a few gifts to give:
Takže chvíľu to trvalo, ale je to tu, ta-dááám, vyhodnotenie tretieho kola Vintage streetstyle. Čisto subjektívne hlasy sú zrátané. Ešte raz veľká vďaka za zaslané príspevky (všetky fotky a príbehy nájdete tu), aj keby som ich veľmi rada odmenila všetky, darčekov je len pár:

1. Ľudmila (above) and her captivating story was one that started with one picture but by the course of faith turned into a continuing story, thanks to Barbora O. for that, sending her this really cool python Fisheye from Lomography.
Ľudmila (vyššie) a jej príbeh začal jednou fotkou, (ne)dopatrením osudu však pokračoval sériou fotiek, vďaka Barbore O., ktorá dostáva tento supa-dupa python Fisheye foťák z Lomography.

2. Zuzana H. and the picture and story of her grandfather gets a special piece from Nike's vintage collection.
Zuzana H. a jej fotka a príbeh starého otca dostáva cenu podľa výberu z vintage kolekcie Nike.

3. And last but not least, these marvelous sister hats send by Karin H. get a special bonus prize, a one of a kind Majka z Gurunu Tshirt by Misha.
A tieto úžasné klobúky sestier od Karin H. ostávajú bonus: jedinečné tričko Majka z Gurunu od Mishy.

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Sister hats

Photo sent by Karin H.: "Today I found this beautiful picture at my grandma's. On it is my grand mother and her sister, when they were about 20. The picture was taken in 1919 in Komárno, The hats on the picture were made by my great grandfather. Unfortunately I didn't know my grandma, but I think she had great taste. It just feels so sad that in these times, everyday elegance is important to only a few people."

4/20/2012

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: The denim jacket

Photo sent by Martina J. (and I really regret that it is not in colour!): "On the picture is my mum and me in 1980 at the Štrkovec lake in Bratislava. The denim jacket that my mum has on, she made it herself and live it is so much more beautiful: she embroidered an amazing, orange coloured peacock (she said she had to use pliers to get the thread through the denim!). The zippers are orange too, those big fat, communist times zippers. The best part is that I inherited the jacket and I treat it respectively, it is a real treasure!"

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Three

Picture sent by Jana G.: "The photo was taken sometime in the 40's, during the World War II. In the middle is my grandma Edita, who remembers the girl on the left: The girl came to town from the East, when the front line was approaching them. Her family sent her away, to keep her safe. The girl, whose name my grandma doesn't remember, didn't tell her parents that in the meantime she got pregnant with a soldier. You can image when the parents found out, but at that time there was nothing they could do. A baby girl named Majka was born, she has never met her father, who had to leave with the army."

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Tartan love

Photo from the family album sent by Dominka D.: "On the picture is my mum at the age of 6, with her mum, my grandma. It was 1974. The picture was taken by my grandfather, a passionate photographer. Obviously, the love for Scottish tartan runs in the family."

Fotku z rodinného albumu poslala Dominika D.: "Na fotke je moja mamina vo veku šesť rokov so svojou mamou – mojou babkou. Písal sa rok 1974. Fotku vytvoril môj deduško, vášnivý fotoamatér. Láska ku škótskemu káru je u nás dedičná."

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: brothers

This beautifully old, battered photo was sent by Saša Š.: "The photo is of my grandfather with one of his brothers, taken around 1943, during the Second World War. Not long after it was taken, my grandfather's parents, both brothers and sister were taken to concentration camp where they died. Grandfather was at that time serving in the army, which saved his life. The picture was probably taken in his native town of Bytča."

3/29/2012

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Emília

The picture of her mum, Emília, sent by Patrícia S.: "In her youth, mum was know for her high hairdos that were so popular back then and until this day we don't understand how she achieved them. She says when she put her hair up in the morning, it lasted the whole day through and she didn't need to fix it through  the day. Unfortunately neither me of my sister inherited her thick hair... The picture is one of many where she is in full gear, on a trip to Prag, in 1965."

3/27/2012

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Alžbeta

This wonderful picture sent by Betka H.: "On it is my grandma Alžbeta (first on the right), recording songs for the Slovak Radio in the 70's. As a former opera singer, a teacher and director of the Arts school in Bratislava, her closet mostly consisted of elegant pieces that were made by her sister or herself - they inherited the craft of sewing from their father, who was a tailor. I am lucky that many pieces from her closet were well kept and since I keep the family tradition of adjusting clothes alive, some of them are now my favorite pieces."

This picture was sent by Zuzana F., on it is her mum's friend Soňa wearing a fur hat. No more details (I guess it was taken at the beginning of the 80's, my mum used to wear similar get ups :-), fur hats and embroidered vests), no big story, but I love the picture, it looks like a still from an old Slovak film, dark and mysterious with a beautiful woman and folklore details.

3/04/2012

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Babi

The picture of her granny was sent in by Jarka M.: "Granny was a real dame with an irresistible charm, always wearing perfectly fitting dresses and stylish, even though simple accessories. It is quite ironic that on this picture granny is very simply dressed. But I think it is not about the dress, but her beaming eyes and the two guys turning their heads after her. Granny holds my mum's hand (watch out for that cute skirt with buttons), on the back of the picture it says "2nd grade", so it must have been taken around 1954 - 55."

Fotku svojej babi poslala Jarka M.: "Babi bola veľká dáma s obrovským šarmom, vždy nosila dokonale padnúce šaty a šmrncovné, hoci decentné doplnky.

2/27/2012

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: Once upon a time in America

This set of pictures (among which were quite a few with cars so I picked them deliberately. By the way, love the elegant young ladies on the second picture, very Mad Men like!) sent by Roberta D.: "Some old dusty photographs. I love everything with a history. Everything vintage, with stories behind the pictures. On these pictures are my ancestors, the ones who emigrated to the USA. I guess some cousins of my grandpa, but...  I don't know names, years, places. For me they have magic hidden inside them and stories I will never know."

Nepoznám ich mená, ani rok a štát zvečnenia.

2/22/2012

Vintage streetstyle, round 3: 80's sunglasses

A beautiful picture sent by Barbora R.: "My mum in 1982, at her most beautiful I think, even that perm suits her incredibly. I still wear those sunglasses today, so happy my mum was careful with her stuff, so I could pull most of it out of her closet." Lucky girl :-)
