Beáta, Ostrava streetstyle

Okay, I don't really know this girl. A bit dramatic introduction, but a good opening line, no? :-) We spent some time with Beáta (together with Theresa and Linda) chatting in a cafe in Ostrava, so that's about how much you can (don't) know somebody, but I really heart her :-) She has the cheekiest look in her eyes and the most beautiful, warm smile AND she is really smart. And she has a sense of humour that translates to her writing. Plus, she really rocks this outfit, so cute! Okay, is there an official fan club? :-)

Priznávam, túto slečnu moc dobre nepoznám. Troška dramatický úvod, ale je to pravda čisto-čistá. Strávili sme (spolu s Theresou a Lindou) príjemný čas v kaviarni v Ostrave, takže to je asi tak úroveň toho ako niekoho (ne)môžete poznať. Napriek tomu mám pocit, že mi je srdcu blízka :-) Má šibalský "kukuč" na pohľadanie, náherný, srdečný úsmev a k tomu jej to fakt myslí. Nehovoriac o tom, že jej to aj fakt sekne. A vtipne píše! Oukej, prosím si prihlášku do fanklubu :-)

Vintage streetstyle, post 3: Joja

These pictures sent in by Kristína F show her grandparents: Joja and Laco. As Kristína wrote, grandma Joja used to be an acress in the Prešov, where she fell in love with grandpa Laco, who was one hell of a sexy actor. Joja was the most beautiful woman who knew how to get her way, but still everyone loved her. When she got older, she worked at the theater in Trnava, where until this day at Christmas Joja's legendary sauerkraut soup is being made and served. When Kristína went to see grandma Joja, they used to play "visits", meaning that Kristína came to visit Joja, carrying one of her many handbags. Joja invited her for imaginary coffee and sometimes borrowed her some of her shoes as well, like one turquoise pair with a bow on them. And in her room, where Kristína slept, the clock was ticking loudly. The picture above dates back to around 1950, maybe earlier. It was taken by grandpa Laco who loved to take photographs. Bonus for you: he is on the picture bellow :-)

Fotky svojich starých rodičov poslala Kristína F., spolu s krásnym popisom: 
"Moja babka Joja bola herečka v Prešovskej spevohre. Tam sa zamilovala aj do môjho deda Laca, ktorý tam bol sexi hercom. Joja bola krásna, najkrajšia, ženská, ktorá si vedela dupnúť, ale všetci ju ľúbili! Keď bola staršia, pracovala ako inšpicientka v Trnavskom divadle, a vždy, keď som prišla na návštevu, dávala mi TicTacky. :) Dodnes sa v tomto divadle varí na Vianoce "Jojina kapustnica". Jojina kapustnica je pojem pre všetky generácie! :) Joja sa so mnou najčastejšie hrávala na návštevy. Znamenalo to, že som k nej akože prišla na návštevu, vždy s inou kabelkou, ktorých mala nekonečne veľa. Ona ma pozvala na imaginárnu kávu a niekedy mi požičala aj lodičky. Najviac si pamätám také tyrkysové s mašľou. A v jej izbe, kde som spávala, tikali hodinky. A strašila ma príhodou o Čubírkovej. Fotka vznikla asi v roku 1950...možno aj o čosi skôr a fotil ju Dedo Laco, ktorý fotil rád a keď mal sakra doma takýto objekt, ani sa mu nečudujem."

Just had the most amazing weekend in Banská Štiavnica (one day I will do a separate post about it, I have to!), spent learning Tango Argentino with my guy. My feet hurt so bad, as do my butt and legs, but I loved it, I dearly recommend it as couples team building, ha :-)))
Práve mám za sebou náherný víkend v Banskej Štiavnici (jedného dňa jej venujem samostatný post, určite!), na kurze argentínskeho tanga s mojím chlapom. Chodidlá moje ma bolia nenormálne, nohy a zadnica tiež, ale stálo to za to, vrelo odporúčam ako párový zážitkový team building, ha :-)))

1. One of my favorite places in Štiavnica is a fantastic second hand book shop Antikvatiárik, where I snatched some 1930's issues of the Czech Eva magazine. Un-be-lie-vab-le! :-) And they acctually have an online shop as well, look here.
Jedno z našich obľúbených miest v Štiavnici je Antikvariátik na námestí, odkiaľ som si odniesla pár čísiel českého magazínu Eva z rokov 30-tych. Ne-nor-mál-ne sú! Antikvariátik má aj online shop, aha tuto.

2. Check out the fresh internet magazine i-lemon covering art, literature, music, film, photography and all kind of cool stuff :-) And a recent interview with the young painter Katarina Sido, with some of my pictures of her, here.
Ak nepoznáte, mrknite mladý internetový magazín i-lemon. O umení, literatúre, hudbe, filme, fotografii a iných hodnotných pridružených činnostiach :-) Napríklad aj v nedávnom rozhovore so študentkou maľby Katkou Sido s pár fotkami, čo sme spolu robili, tutok.

3. There is a new street style blog on the block. Two young sociologists from Poland with cameras around their necks - I love the concept! Take a look and show them some love here. And have a great week, maybe we'll see some sunshine :-)
Do celosvetovej rodiny pribudol nový streetstyle blog. Robia ho dvaja mladí sociológovia z Poľska - výborný koncept! Mrknite sem a ak sa vám to zdá, nehanbite sa dať follow. A najmä, majte krásny týždeň, možno nám aj slnko zasvieti :-)

Theresa, Ostrava streetstyle

I intended to call this post "Black and white with a splash of red" or something along those very sophisticated lines, and yes, I do love black on the background of white snow and red lips... but in the end, it is all about the positively crazy, beautiful, very talented and obviously very cold resistant make-up artist and blogger Theresa. We met on a very cold weekend in Ostrava and spent a nice evening chatting next to a glass (okay, make it a bottle) of wine together :-) Check out her blog and work here.

Pôvodne som zamýšľala tento post nazvať "Black and white with a splash of red" alebo niečo na ten sofistikovaný štýl, pretože áno, milujem čiernu na bielom snehu, doladenú červenými perami.... ale v konečnom efekte je to aj tak všetko o ľahko šialenej, krásnej, veľmi talentovanej a evidetne veľmi mrazuvzdornej vizážistke a blogerke Therese. Stretli sme sa v jeden mrazivý víkend v Ostrave a stávili podvečer príjemným pokecom pri pohári (no dobre, fľaši) vína :-) Jej blog a práce nájdete tu, aha.

Vintage streetstyle, post 2: Matilda

Picture by Bartoa D, taken around the 1920's. On it is probably the mother of his grand mother, Matilda (you know you have those pictures in your family album when no one is REALLY sure who is on the picture :-). What we can't see in the picture is that later on, she lost her husband in the war and was left alone with her daughter (Bartoa's grand mother) and a hard working life.
I admit, this picture is not so much streetstyle, but I really love its atmosphere and the little details in it, that's why I decided to include it in this series of vintage streetstyle photos.

Fotka od Bartoa D., vznikla niekedy v 20-tych rokoch, a je na nej pravdepodobne Matilda, mama jeho starej mamy (asi všetci máme v rodinných fotoalbumoch tie nádherné fotky, pri ktorých si už ale NIKTO nie je si istý, kto vlastne na tej fotke je :-). Čo na fotke nemôžeme vidieť, je, že Matilda neskôr vo vojne prišla o svojho manžela, ostala sama s dcérou (starou mamou Bartoa) a celý život tvrdo pracovala.
Priznávam, táto fotka nie je úplne streetstyle, dostala ma však jej atmosféra a malé detaily ukryté v nej, a preto som ju zaradila do tejto série vintage streetstyle.

Vintage streetstyle, post 1: Jozef

Picture send in by Bartoa D., and on the picture is Jozef (aged about 20), the brother of his grandfather. Grandfather Ivan was in love with photography and had a huge archive, even helped out in a photo atelier. So when he got the chance, next to some weddings he shot, he also developed the pictures of his brother. The picture dates back to the 1950's and was taken in Handlová or Nováky or somewhere other close to Prievidza. 
What I love about this photo, next to the the haircut and the short sleeves of the jacket is the overall streetstyle attitude of Jozef :-)

Fotku poslal Bartoa D. (dobrý nick :-), a je na nej asi 20-ročný Jozef, brat jeho starého otca. Starý otec Ivan bol nadšený fotoamatér a mal rozsiahly archív. Vypomáhal tiež vo fotografickom ateliéry, kde fotil svadby, a tak popri tom vyvolal aj fotky brata. Fotka pochádza z 50tych rokov a bola fotená v Handlovej alebo Novákoch, alebo nejakom inom meste pri Prievidzi.
Okrem účesu a dĺžky rukávov saka sa mi na fotke páči nenútená streetstyle nálada Jozefa :-)

On a cigarette break, Ostrava streetstyle

I caught this lady in front of the Ostrava town hall, she seemed to be going on a little cigarette break, braving the freezing weather. I love how you can tell so many stories just by looking at her face, eyes, coat, gesture of the hand...

Túto dámu som zastihla pre Ostravskou radnicou na malej cigpauze, aj napriek mrazivému počasiu. Stačí pohľad, gesto, úsmev, a v hlave sa vynárajú príbehy, ktoré sa možno ani nikdy nestali...

Vintage streetstyle: Share your photos and take home a Diana

 

I am sure somewhere in you family albums there are hidden photographic treasures capturing your mum, dad, grandma or even great-grand uncle from different kind of eras, documenting the style of those people and eras. Wonderful black and white (or even some colour 80's) vintage streetstyle pictures that are worth to be seen.
My call is: scan those photographs, send them to my email address: tonbogirl.blogspot@gmail.com, together with a short description of who is on the picture or a short story about the picture. I will publish the best of them here, one by one. The best part: together they will create an unique album of vintage streetstyle of Slovakia, Czech republic or wherever you are from (any other regions are welcome!) I am sooo looking forward your pictures representing our vintage style of the streets!
For example, on this pic above is my mum (sooo pretty, I know :-), sometime in the early seventies when she studied Russian and French at University in Bratislava and just met my dad. You can't see it in the picure, but I am sure she was rocking the socks in shoes trend :-)

Som si istá, že v hĺbke vašich rodinných fotoalbumov sa skrývajú skvosty zachytávajúce vašich rodičov, starú mamu či pra-pra-prastrýka, dokumentujúce štýl ľudí aj doby, v ktorej žili. Nádherné čiernobiele (alebo aj farebné 80's) skvosty, ktoré škoda nechať zapadnúť prachom a nepodeliť/nepochváliť sa.
Moja výzva je: naskenujte tie fotky/vybranú fotku a pošlite ich/ju na mailovú adresu: tonbogirl.blogspot@gmail.com, spolu s krátkym popisom fotky, ľudí na nej alebo príbehom, ktorý sa k fotke viaže. Najlepšie z nich s radosťou postupne uverejním tu na blogu, a každá fotka tak prispeje k vzniku  unikátneho online albumu vintage štýlu z ulíc Slovenska, Čiech (ale vítané sú aj akékoľvek iné regióny.)
Napríklad na fotke hore je moja mama (že aká fešanda! :-), niekedy na začiatku sedemdesiatych rokov, keď prišla do Bratislavy študovať ruštinu a francúzštinu a zoznámila sa s mojím otcom. Na fotke to moc dobre nevidno, ale som si istá, že si celkom fičala na trende ponožiek v topánkach (ide móda dokola... :-)

Oh yes, this here is a special edition Diana lomo camera that I picked for one of you :-) The guys at lomography.sk love the idea of Vintage streestyle album and are giving this camera to one of you (who sends in a picture) as a little reward for your effort. The rules are simple: the lomography guys will pick the picture they like the most (I will be voting as well), but to be fair, we will take in account the number of likes and comments under the published pictures. Deadline: end of March! Looking forward!

Just got back from freeeezing Ostrava, 5 below zero and show flakes the size of my fist all weekend while shooting spring streetstyle for Avion Ostrava. All the people I met there are my personal heroes because of that. This is only a taste of the streets. Now some links worth spending time at for you :-)

Práve som sa vrátila zo zamrznutej Ostravy. Celých mínus 5 stupňov a tri kamióny veselých snehových vločiek nám robili spoločnosť pri fotení jarného streetstyle pre Avion Ostrava. Všetci ľudia, ktorí sa toho zúčastnili, sú moji osobní hrdinovia. Ja som stále vo fáze rozmrazovania končatín... Toť malá ochutnávka z ulíc. A pár linkov na klikanie, čo stoja za to :-)

2. When I feel like escaping to a beautiful, pure place, I go to the world of nevara. I love this girl's way of seeing the world, her gentle images talk to me. 
Kedykoľvek túžim zmiznúť do iného, čistého a krásneho sveta, utekám do world of nevara. Jej spôsob videnia, cítenia, fotenia, písania mi je veľmi blízky a vždy pohladí.

3. Yummy. Just discovered two new local food blogs, the Slovak Little Cooking Diary and the Czech Bohemian Life. All right, I am off to have a look into the fridge, have a wonderful week! :-)

Inspiration: Lomography

So, here's the story. LOMO = Leningradskoye Optiko Mechanichesckoye Obyedinenie (The Leningrad Optical Mechanical Society), ha! There, I almost got crazy typing that :-) Yup, as many wonderful things in life, Lomo started in Russia :-) In 1983 the only thing missing to the perfect life was a machine capturing it. So the first plastic camera known as Lomo Compact Automat was created, spreading across all socialist countries. But, as many wonderful things in life, it was gradually found not to be so perfect and sadly died out. 
It was only in the 90's that some young Austrian tourist found an old Lomo in a Czech bazaar, put in a film and were fascinated by the results. The contrast, colours and atmosphere of the pics were very unique to the digital era. As they say, the rest is history. And the future is analog :-)

Kde bolo tam bolo... LOMO = Leningradskoye Optiko Mechanichesckoye Obyedinenie (Leningradská Optická Mechanická Spoločnosť). Tak, tak, ako mnoho hodnotných vecí v živote, aj Lomo vzniklo v Rusku :-) V roku 1983 jediná vec, chýbajúca k dokonalému životu bola mašinka, ktorá ho zachytí, a tak soudruzi z CCCP vyrobili plastovú škatuľku známu ako Lomo Compact Automat. Škatuľka sa rýchlo udomácnila aj v ostatných socialistických krajinách, ale ako mnohé dokonalé veci v živote, zistilo sa, že nie je až taká dokonalá (divne ostrí, robí divné farby) a zapadla prachom.
Až v 90-tych rokoch dvaja mladí Rakúšani na potulkách českými bazármi našli staré Lomo, dali doňho film a nestačili sa diviť. Kontrast, farby a atmosféra fotiek pôsobili v digitálnej dobe fascinujúco. A stále tak pôsobia. Toť krátka história. A ako verní lomomaniaci hovoria, budúcnosť je analógová :-)

FishEye at Pohoda festival. Can it already be summer, please? Rybie oko na Pohode. Ja už si prosím leto, dobre?

I own the FishEye and the SuperSampler (and would love to have a Diana). Just two of the Lomo cameras that give you a creative space to fool around, and your pics the atmosphere of the film that can not be replaced. Okay, I obviously haven't mastered the SuperSampler yet, these below are only the first pics :-)

Ja mám v zbierke FishEye a SuperSampler (a ešte si brúsim zuby na Dianu). SuperSampler som ešte evidentne nezvládla úplne, iba prvé fotky. Ale potenciál je myslím vidieť :-)
