Autumn blues, Prague

 

One of my favorite replies to my request to photograph someone is "but I am not photogenic" or something along those lines. Another one is "oh, come on, I am too old"... That is enough for me to take it as a personal challenge and not let that person go before I am happy with the result. Sorry, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And I see you beautiful...

Thanks to Paulina here for trusting me in the end. Love everything about this blue-eyed, red and black get up. Even the not very body-conscious shapes the jacket and the skirt create, in contrast with the softness of her lips and the scarf.

Jedna z mojich obľúbených odpovedí na prosbu odfotiť dotyčného je "ale ja nie som fotogenická/ý" alebo niečo podobné. Prípadne "ááále, však aj som už na také stará"... Toto mi úplne stačí, aby som to zobrala ako osobnú výzvu a nenechala osloveného/nú odísť, až kým nie som spokojná. Pardón, ale krása je definovaná tým, kto ju vníma. A ja vás vidím krásnych...

Ďakujem tu Pavlíne, že sa nakoniec nechala odfotiť. Na tejto modrookej, červeno-čiernej kombinácii ma baví úplne všetko. Aj sukňa a bunda z materiálov, ktoré nepriliehajú úplne k postave a robia si čo chcú, v kontraste s jej perami a mäkkým šálom.

 

Looking back, this girl just reminded me of this gentleman and his scarf and this oversized beauty, both from London. 

Spätne som si uvedomila, že Pavlína mi pripomenula tohto pána a jeho šál a túto oversized krásku, oboch už dávnejšie z Londýna.

Styles change, smiles remain

Same town, same girl, same smile, totally different style. Look here. Honestly, love these moments! And her fun combo of glasses and the cap.

To isté mesto, to isté dievča, ten istý úsmev, úplne iný štýl. Tu aha. Milujem tieto momenty! A jej veselé kombo šiltovky a okuliarov :-)

Great news for the Slovak fashion scene, everyone! After all the disappointment and bitter aftertaste of the Bratislava Fashion Weekend getting cancelled by the organizers a week before it was supposed to take place, things started moving in between the designers themselves.
They decided to join forces and build up a fashion event (and possibly a future brand of Fashion Weeks) themselves to show their collections and, more importantly, the fact that Slovak fashion is alive and kicking! With the support of creative director Olo Křížová and the Slovak Fashion Council, Fashion Live! - Slovak Fashion Week Initiative is coming to Bratislava.

Skvelé správy pre slovenskú módnu scénu, priatelia! Po sklamaní a divnej pachuti po zrušení Bratislava Fashion Weekendu usporiadateľom iba týždeň pred dátumom konania, toto vyvolalo živú reakciu medzi dizajnérmi samotnými. Veci sa začali hýbať, dizajnéri spojili sily, aby dali dokopy víkend (a pravdepodobne možnú budúcu značku Fashion Weeku), predviedli svoje práce a najmä ukázali, že slovenská módna scéna žije a je schopná sa postaviť za spoločnú vec. S podporou kreatívnej riaditeľky Olo Křížovej a Slovak Fashion Council sa zrodila iniciatíva a víkend Fashion Live! - Slovak Fashion Week Initiative, a plnou silou sa pripravuje.

1. Happy from a new, Slovak brand of shoes, Splendix. Made in Slovakia, from natural materials, based on Baťa's traditions. So far only for men, but that's all right, they deserve their own brand :-) Instapic from last week's presentation.
Nová slovenská značka topánok, Splendix, vyrábaná z prírodných materiálov, na Slovensku, v duchu baťovských tradícií. Zatiaľ iba mužské modely, ale však ok, zaslúžia si vlastnú značku :-) Foto z minulotýždňového uvedenia tu.

2. A new local foodie magazine, Pyré, just published its issue zero, beautiful!
Nový slovenský časopis o dobrom jedle, Pyré (to už je aký super názov!) práve uverejnil nulté číslo, krása! A niekedy v decembri má vyjsť prvé regulérne.

At Kurátor, Prague

It was hot summer when I visited the freshly opened tiny shop Kurátor in Prague. They mainly present and sell local and selected fashion and design pieces from other countries, with a special focus on young designers. But, the interesting thing is that they function based on the principles of galleries. Meaning that they open an exhibition (present pieces from brands) for a limited amount of time, then close it and open another one, with different pieces and designers.
Currently they opened their third installation including pieces from Belka (the co-owner of Kurátor, Martina, is also part of the Belka brand), coats by Radka Hortová, boots by Eliška Kuchtová, porcelain jewellery from Spain, scarf from Paris, with more designers and pieces to come. Bolo ešte horúce leto, keď som navštívila čerstvo otvorený, miniatúrny obchod Kurátor v Prahe. Kurátor vyberá, prezentuje a predáva lokálnych aj svetových dizajnérov a ich kúsky, so sympatickým zameraním na mladých dizajnérov. Čo je však na Kurátorovi zaujímavé, je fakt, že fungujú na galerijných princípoch, v zmysle toho, že otvoria výstavu/inštaláciu (s vybranými značkami a kúskami) na obmedzený čas, potom ju celú zmenia a otvoria novú, s ďalšími značkami.
Momentálne majú otvorenú tretiu inštaláciu, ktorá obsahuje značku Belka (spolumajiteľka Kurátora, Martina, je aj súčasťou značky Belka), kabáty od čerstvej zlínskej absolventky Radky Hortovej, topánky od Elišky Kuchtovej, porcelánové šperky zo Španielska, šály z Paríža, s postupne pribúdajúcimi kúskami od ďalších dizajnérov. Peter, Prague Fashion Weekend

It's always a special moment to meet and talk to Peter Šagát, a smart man and lecturer on the topics of fashion marketing and sustainability issues. The next academic year he'll spend traveling between the universities of Prague, Zlín and Bratislava, lecturing fashion design students and working on the projects of Creative Fashion Marketing in the Czech republic and Fashion + Communication in Slovakia. Cheers to that!

Stretnutia s Petrom Šagátom ma vždy potešia. Múdry to muž a lektor zaoberajúci sa fashion marketingom a trvalo udržateľným rozvojom vo viacerých oblastiach strávi tento akademický rok cestovaním medzi univerzitami v Prahe, Zlíne a Bratislave, kde bude prednášať práve na tému fashion marketingu, a pracovať na projektoch Creative Fashion Marketing v Českej republike a projekte Fashion + Communication na Slovensku. Držím palce!

Prague Fashion Weekend moments

 

From a very quick, one day round trip to the Prague Fashion Weekend. Our first stop was at the STUDIO designSUPERMARKET in the beautiful Stencuv dum.

Z rýchleho, jedného dňa na otočku na pražský Fashion Weekend. Prvá zastávka bola v designSUPERMARKTE v prekrásnom priestore budovy Štencův dům.

Jedna z prehliadok, ktorú som chytila, ženská armáda v podaní Chatty.

I really wanted to see Mirka Horká's "concrete" collection, but because of jury duties I only caught a glimpse from backstage. You can see the pictures here. 

Speaking of jury, I was honestly honored, humbled and feeling extremely responsible, to be a part of the Start-Up jury. The judging was really tough and emotional, there were simply too many collections and talented designers who would have equally deserved the prize (and too little time for the jury to discuss and experience the collections, honestly. Sorry, this part was not too well organized.). In the very final discussions, the jury narrowed down the shortlist:

Veľmi som chcela vidieť "betónovú" kolekciu Mirky Horkej, kvôli porotcovským povinnostiam som ju zachytila len z backstage. Vy si fotky môžete pozrieť tu.

 Čo sa týka porotcovania, bola som veľmi poctená a cítila som sa extrémne zodpovedne ako súčasť Start-Up poroty, ktorá hodnotila mladých dizajnérov. Proces to bol náročný, emočný a myslím si, že veľmi úprimný. Vo finále bolo naozaj dosť krásnych kolekcií a talentov, z ktorých by ktorýkoľvek mohol s čistým svedomím vyhrať (avšak príliš málo času pre porotu na prácu. Úprimne, túto časť organizátori nezvládli úplne...) V úplne naj-najužšom výbere sa porota rozhodovala medzi týmito kolekciami:

The winner, Markéta Martišková, blew us away with the overall look, concept and presentation. To be honest, there were some perfect collections, but this one was from another dimension. To simplify it, I did not feel like I am sitting at a show in Prague. Hats (or head balls down).

Víťazka, Markéta Martišková, zabodovala celkovým konceptom, prevedením aj prezentáciou. Po pravde bolo vo finále viacero až dokonalých prác, táto však bola z inej dimenzie. Zjednodušene povediac som sa pri jej pozeraní necítila ako na prehliadke v Prahe. Klobúk (a gule na hlave) dole!

Probably the most sophisticated, beautifully executed, feminine collection inspired by wood, was by Daniela Pešková. Personally, I would love to have any of the pieces in my closet.

Pravdepodobne najsofistikovanejšia, dokonale prevedená, najženskejšia kolekcia inšpirovaná drevom od Daniely Peškovej. Osobne by som brala ktorýkoľvek kúsok do šatníka.

A pure male collection by Antonín Šimon. Beautifully thought out, cut, shaped, combined, pure joy.

Čisto pánska kolekcia Antonína Šimona. Koncept, strih, tvary, prevedenie, krása a radosť.

In the Accessories category the winner was Markéta Šohajová with her amazing shoes. 

And the models walking in them, ha!

V kategórii doplnkov zvíťazila Markéta Šohajová.

Paulina, Prague Fashion Weekend

During my very short trip to Prague Fashion Weekend I bumped into the beautiful stylist Paulina (from Slovakia, living and working in Prague) and instantly wanted to trade outfits! Like footballers do at the end of a game. Or women in the middle of Fashion Weekend to mutually perk up their wardrobe... genius! :-)
Anyway, love the simple colour palette and the contrasting materials of the gentle white dress, faux leather jacket and big, soft circle scarf. Also, can I please have long hair very very soon, so I can wear it tucked into my big soft scarf? Okthanksbye!

Počas bleskovej jednodňovej návštevy Prague Fashion Weekendu som mala šťastie aj na prekrásnu stajlistku Paulinu (ktorá momentálne žije a pracuje v Prahe), a pri pohľade na ňu som si chcela okamžite meniť outfity. Niečo ako futbalisti na konci zápasu. Alebo ženy uprostred Fashion Weekendu, keď si chcú spestriť šatník... geniálne! :-) 
Každopádne, úplne ma baví čistá paleta farieb, a kontrast jemných bielych šiat, čiernej bundy z umelej kože a veľký, jemnučký šál. A tiež si poprosím nejak tak rýchlejšie a už konečne tie dlhé vlasy, aby som ich mohla nosiť zastrčené v šáli. Ďakujem úctivo!

MQ Vienna Fashion Week: Izabela Komjati & Eleonora Gaskova

Another Slovak show at the Vienna Fashion Week was a collaboration between fashion designer Izabela Komjati and milliner Eleonóra Gašková (remember this article about her and her family's hat-making tradition in Košice?), completed by Slava Hriadelova's jewellery. I really liked how the two designers collaborated in a way that gave equal space to shine for both of them. That sometimes it was more about the hats (hence the bodysuits) and sometimes about the dress. For me the perfection of this collaboration was the last, white model. Oh, and see the whole show here.

Ďalšou slovenskou prehliadkou na viedenskom Fashion Weeku bola kolaborácia návrhárky Izabely Komjati a klobučníčky Ely Gaškovej (ozaj, pamätáte tento článok o jej trojgeneračnom klobučníckom remesle a obchodíku z Košíc?), doplnené šperkami Slavy Hriadelovej. Páčilo sa mi ako dve návrhárky našli spôsob prezentácie, ktorý zdôraznil prácu ich oboch. Niektoré modely boli viac o klobúkoch a iné viac o šatách. Mňa osobne najviac dostal ten posledný, biely model. Celú prehliadku si môžete pozrieť zasa raz tu.
