At a mountain wedding

Is this a wedding season, or what? I feel like there are weddings and babies happening all around. Like last weekend was already the second wedding we have attended this year, and I have to tell you about this one. Because it was in the mountains. Because it was misty and cold and for the same reasons it was magical. Because the wedding party planned it to be a quite a punk event, but it also turned out to be very romantic and photogenic. Because all the people there were beautiful. Because I have seen Mr. Kaščák play heartfelt folk songs and raving mad punk songs in one day (AND take group photos. That man is multitasking!) Because the groom is in one of his songs rappping about being jealous of people photographed by Tonbogirl. There!
The whole atmosphere was so magical, I couldn't help it. Here some pictures for you. And my proclamation of love for the village of Nižná Boca.

Toto je aká intenzívna svadobná sezóna? Mám pocit, že sa všetci berú a že všetci rodia. Napríklad minulý víkend sme boli už na druhej svadbe tento rok, a o tejto vám musím povedať. Pretože bola v horách. A práve preto bola sychravá a chladná, a z tých istých dôvodov magická. Pretože si ju svadobčania síce naplánovali ako pomerne punkovú záležitosť, ale zároveň bola veľmi romantická a fotogenická. Pretože tam boli krásni ľudia. Pretože som Miša Kaščáka videla hrať precítene ľudovky a v ten istý deň aj utrhnuté punkové songy (A zároveň fotil spoločnú fotku. Multitalent to je!) Pretože ženích v jednej zo svojich pesničiek rapuje o tom, ako závidí ľuďom, ktorých odfotila Tonbogííírl. Na!
Atmosféra bola neodolateľná, nedalo sa nefotiť. Tu vám ponúkam zopár fotiek. A oficiálne vyznávam lásku obci Nižná Boca.

Jana, at By Design conference

At the recent By Design conference I was asking some visitors about their relationship with fashion design and personal style (since they were attending the design event of the year). And while doing so I also caught Jana, a journalist, who prefers vintage pieces, combined with her boyfriend's clothes (like the trousers here). With a very feminine and magical result. Na nedávnej By Design konfere som sa niektorých účastníkov pýtala na ich vzťah k dizajnu módnemu a oblečeniu ako takému (keď už boli na evente o dizajne, všakže). Medzi nimi bola aj Janka, ktorá obľubuje skôr vintage módu, ktorú kombinuje s pánskymi kúskami ukradnutými z priateľovej skrine. Výsledok: čarovne ženský. Viac ľudí a ich módne príbehy nájdete tu aha, v prvej časti.

Zuz, Bratislava

I met Zuz (and a filming crew following her) on one of my favorite streets, while she was shooting a video about her collaboration with the brand ushy.te. The skirt and shirt are from that collaboration, hat by BySju. See the video and rest of the collection. And check it out at this weekend's Urban Market. High five to the girls and collaborations in general!

Zuz som stretla náhodne na ulici, kde sa celkom často náhodne stretávame. Ona mala v ten deň v pätách filmárov, s ktorými točili video k jej spolupráci so značkou ushy.te. Bicycle stories: Mira

This Bicycle story was shot last year. When the Old bridge over the Danube was still standing. It wasn't just like that, there was a small film crew just behind us, filming us for a series of short documents "Fetiše socializmu", for an episode about bikes during socialism.
Which Mira's bike is perfect for. She found it at one of her trips back home to Partizánske, locked in a small cellar of her apartment building. It's a beautiful Lady 26 model, which belonged to her neighbour and was given to her, since he did not use it anymore. So a friend transported it to Bratislava, she let it fixed up at Modrofúz and now they cruising together the streets.

Túto sériu s krásnou Mirou sme fotili ešte minulý rok, na Starom moste, po ktorom dnes ostali už iba osamotené piliere. A nebolo to len tak, hneď za chrbtom sme mali malý filmový štáb, ktorý točil časť dokumentárnej série "Fetiše socializmu" - do časti o bicykloch. 
A ten Mirin je dokonalým príkladom bicykla z čias socializmu. Našla ho v takej tej malej panelákovej pivnici v bytovke rodičov v Partizánskom. Pán sused, ktorému krásny model Lady 26 patril, jej ho venoval, keďže ho už nevyužíval. Kamarát Ladynu prepravil do Bratislavy, u Modrofúza ju dali dokopy (vymenili sedadlo, blatníky, nalakovali) a teraz si to spolu s Mirou šinú ulicami Bratislavy.

Eva, Bratislava

During our Saturday visit to the Slovak National Gallery I was immediately charmed by Eva (who works there), while she couldn't stop giggling about being photographed.
"My husband gave this shawl to me. And was quite upset that I did not really wear it. I took it today to make him happy and bang, I get photographed, he is going to have such a laugh!"
"Also love your bag, where is it from?"
"From my husband as well.... Oh, he's Italian."
Lucky woman. And lucky man.

V sobotu sme boli na skok v Slovenskej národnej galérii a mne okamžite učarovala Eva (ktorá v SNG pracuje), a ju nesmierne pobavila žiadosť o fotku.
"Tento šál mi dal môj manžel, ale skoro vôbec ho nenosím, a on bol z toho smutný. Tak som si ho dnes vzala, aby mal radosť, a nech sa páči, hneď ma fotia. Už vidím, ako sa na tom bude zabávať!"
"Ináč, aj tá taška je super, odkiaľ ju máš?"
"Tiež od manžela... No, je to Talian."
Šťastná to žena. A šťastný to muž.

 

Hana (8 months later), Bratislava

You've seen Hana for the first time here, last summer. Oh, what do you think about her short hair? I met her the day when she cut it and you could feel she was still unsure about it, still touching the back of her neck, as if searching for her long hair. 

I love it to the point that it makes me want to cut mine! Also love her huuuge bag, combined with the soft camel cardigan and black basics. 

And this post has the label "wedding" to it, for a simple reason. Hana is the brains and eyes behind PONK Rentals, furniture and decorations rental (with a special talent for flowers), and will be decorating our wedding, can't wait!

Hanu ste videli na tomto blogu po prvýkrát tu, minulé leto. Ozaj, ako sa vám páči jej krátky zostrih? Ja som ju stretla práve v deň, keď sa bola dať strihať a bolo vidno, že si nie je istá zmenou, rukou stále zachádzala ku krku, akoby hľadala dlhé vlasy. 

Mne sa jej krátke vlasy páčia do tej miery, že mám chuť ísť nakrátko! A tá velikánska taška v kombinácii s mäkkým svetrom a basic čiernou...

Tento post má tiež label "wedding" v popiske, a to z jednoduchého dôvodu. Hana je motorom a citlivým okom za PONK Rentals, prenájmom nábytku a dekorácií (s citom pre kvety,) a bude nám dekorovať svadbu, tešíme sa!

Malmö bikes and design

This strange weather just reminded me of a trip to Malmö and my winter coat - on the picture (that I just picked up from the dry-cleaners, ready to put it away till next winter... now I am not so sure...).
This trip was a real quick tasting of the third biggest city in Sweden. Apart from the surprising fact that all bars and pubs and restaurants were closed in the evening (the Swedes prefer to entertain their friends in their homes - because they do have beautiful homes!), Malmö was all about bikes and design shops (I almost cried on every corner, wanted to buy everything!) and bikes and design shops and bikes and IKEA.

Toto prapodivné počasie mi pripomenulo návštevu Malmö a môj obľúbený zimný kabát - ten na obrázku (ktorý som si len včera doniesla z čistiarne, pripravený na letný spánok... no neviem...).
Cesta bola rýchlou ochutnávkou tretieho najväčšieho švédskeho mesta. Okrem toho, že nás šokovali večer zavreté reštaurácie a bary (Švédi vraj radšej pozývajú a hostia rodinu a priateľov u seba doma - lebo však majú pekné domovy!), Malmö bolo: bicykle, obchody s dizajnom (na každom rohu. Skoro som sa rozplakala od túžby si to všetko zobrať domov!), bicykle, obchody z dizajnom, bicykle a IKEA.

IKEA have completely changed their kitchen system, upgraded it to a more flexible, modern and very variable METOD system with new surfaces, now it's more like a lego (you can build your living room from the METOD system) - see the picture gallery here.

IKEA nedávno úplne zmenila svoj kuchynský systém, vytunovala ho na viac flexibilný, moderný a ľahko variovateľný systém METOD - s novými povrchmi a vychytávkami - teraz je to viac ako lego (napríklad si z toho môžete vyskladať aj obývačku) - galériu fotiek nájdete tu.

Invitation: Fashion show of the graduates, Bratislava

I always get excited about young fashion and designers - love their dreams and passion and experiments. If you feel the same, together with the students of Atelier 343 we are inviting you to this year's fashion show of the students of fashion graduating from Bratislava's Academy of Arts. Here a little preview of who and what to expect:

 Tvorba študentov módy ma veľmi baví - rovnako ako ich vášeň, sny a sloboda experimentovať. Ak ste na tom podobne, spolu s Ateliérom 343 vás pozývame na absolventskú prehliadku magistrov a bakalárov ateliéru odevného dizajnu VŠVU. Toto je len malá chuťovka, koho a čo očakávať:

Maja Božovič and her collection "Memories for the future" is focusing on how fast fashion is affecting our lives. The collection is inspired by the dress culture of Chinese tribes.

Maja Božovič a kolekcia "Spomienky do budúcna", ktorá upriamuje pozornosť na dnešný neudržateľný márnotratný konzum a jeho následky. Modely sú inšpirované odevnou kultúrou čínskych kmeňov.

Lena Rypáková and her collection "Catharsis" plays with the idea of reaching catharsis through art. Cuts and openings in the material on unexpected places evoke a strong feeling of vulnerability.

Lena Rypáková a kolekcia "Katarzia". Kolekcia odevov symbolicky pracuje s ideou dosiahnutia katarzie pomocou umeleckého diela. Priestrihy materiálu na nečakaných miestach evokujú silný pocit zraniteľnosti.

Silvia Kissová and her collection "Sense perception" is inspired by the changes of a woman that goes through the stages of innocence, falling in love and disappointment, mistrust and worries. White, red and black are the main colours of the collection.

Silvia Kissová a kolekcia "Zmyslové vnímanie" je inšpirovaná premenami ženy, ktorá prechádza od nevinnosti cez lásku až po sklamanie, nedôveru a obavy. Biela, červená a čierna sú nosnými farbami kolekcie.

Silvia Hollá and her collection "I want to give you something I am wearing" is a look back at her internship in Istanbul and works with her memories of living in a different culture - moving from darkness into light.

Silvia Hollá a kolekcia "Chcem ti dať niečo, čo nosím" je spracovaním jej zážitkov a spomienok na stáž v Turecku a života v inej kultúre - postupným prechádzaním z tmy do svetla.

Among the graduates are also Emma Korpová and her collection Soledad, inspired by the traditional south american sartorial culture, and Katarína Š. Fedorišinová with an unisex collection called "Cult" that focuses on parallels between political cults and pop music cults.
Part of the fashion show will be a selection of semestral works form the Atelier, and I am already looking forward. This Wednesday, 7 p.m., at the Bratislava castle. More info at the event's FB page or in this video invitation.

Medzi absolventmi-magistermi sú aj Emma Korpová s kolekciou Soledad, inšpirovaná tradičnou latinsko-americkou odevnou kultúrou, a Katarína Š. Fedorišinová s unisex kolekciou Cult, ktorá sa sústreďuje na paralely medzi politickými kultami a kultami populárnej hudby.

Young Slovak artists (Lenka, Marek and Dominika) vs. Converse's tie-dye range was a project I shot for Inspire magazine. Inspired by the colours and technique, Lenka create the magical-fantastical, colourful helmet, Marek worked with paper, his favorite material, and upgraded a toy car, and Dominika used the tie-dye technique on the back of one of her paintings. It was a great project, thank you!

Mirka, at F&F AW14 in London

Mirka is EVA magazine's very charming stylist. And I was totally charmed by her combination of a lbd with leather, the white priest-like collar and golden cross, red lipstick and her dark mane. Way to let your natural beauty show and shine. A liiiiitle bit like Madonna around Like A Prayer, but with more class (and I mean it in the best way possible, don't get me wrong, I adore Madonna's Like A Prayer phase!) 

Mirka je veľmi milá a šarmantná stylistka magazínu EVA. Mne v Londýne učarovala jej kombinácia malých čiernych s kožou, bielym, akožefarárskym golierom a zlatým krížom v uchu. K tomu len červený rúž a tmavá hriva, prirodzená krása je proste najviac. Troooošička ako Madonna vo svojej Like A Prayer fáze, iba s väčšou dávkou elegancie (pri všetkej úcte, keďže ja Madonninu Like A Prayer fázu milujem, bacha na to).
